FortisBC is seeking a Policy Advisor for Climate Action to develop corporate strategies aligned with government climate policies in the energy sector. The role involves analyzing climate action policies, supporting zero and low-carbon solutions, and ensuring compliance with greenhouse gas reporting. Candidates should have a relevant degree and experience in the energy industry. The position offers flexibility to work from an approved location in British Columbia for up to 85 days a year.

Position Overview
Youre a tactical mastermind who can leverage your thorough understanding of government greenhouse gas (GHG) energy and climate change policies to develop aligned actionable corporate strategies in the energy utility sector. Youre incredibly thorough in your approach adaptable in rapidly changing environments and collaborative in nature to ensure your strategies are rock solid. We need someone like you to join as a Policy Advisor Climate Action.
In this role youll support our Public Policy and Government Relations department with progressing climate action and policy objectives including our Clean Growth Pathway plans compliance.
In this role you will:
• Conduct analysis and engagement related to climate action policies applicable to the buildings industry and transportation sectors in British Columbia. .
• Support the development of strategies to advance FortisBCs zero and lowcarbon solutions for the buildings industry and transportation sectors across both electric and gas utilities in an effort to contribute to BCs Climate action goals and objectives.
• Contribute to the development and compliance with FortisBCs internal greenhouse gas reporting tracking and action framework.
What it takes:
• A bachelors degree from an accredited postsecondary institution in a relevant field such as environmental studies political science public affairs business administration or engineering plus a minimum of four to seven years related experience in energy industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• A masters degree is considered an asset.
• Excellent analytical skills and attentiontodetail with a focus on public policy analysis to develop strategies with an indepth understanding of energy and climate strategies GHG abatement regulations and policies.
• Strong skills in the use of business analysis financial evaluation methods and project management.
• Exceptional communications skills with a focus on government and stakeholder relations for GHG policy frameworks in Canada.
• A demonstrated understanding of energy systems modeling and GHG abatement solutions alongside proven energy sector utility and regulatory experience.
What you need to know:
• Prior to the interview Talent Acquisition will conduct a full employee general record review. This will include but is not limited to: sick leave and attendance records personnel file review and letters on file.
In this role you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week) subject to business or operational needs.
