The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is seeking a Plumbing Engineer/Designer in Pennington, NJ. The role involves leading plumbing design for complex projects, including hospitals and data centers, ensuring quality control, mentoring staff, and coordinating with clients and contractors. Candidates should have a strong background in plumbing systems and engineering techniques. A Master's degree in Architectural Engineering is preferred.

The Building Engineering Services Group (BES) provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site civil, structural, and specialty design services for a wide variety of buildings that include public, municipal, private, and Federal project types across the region and globally. With a team of experienced staff in specific market sectors such as Healthcare, Science and Technology, Data Centers, Higher Education, Federal, Transportation, Water, and Resources facilities, we provide engineering excellence for our clients.

The HDR BES group in New Jersey is looking for a Plumbing Engineer/Designer to join our team.

Primary Responsibilities
• Support and lead the plumbing, medical gas, and laboratory gas portions of complex projects including hospitals, research facilities, data centers, and other facility types.
• Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard and advanced engineering techniques and procedures to make decisions on a broad range of plumbing design issues.
• Support and lead design of plumbing systems including domestic cold water, domestic hot water, sanitary drainage and vent systems, storm drainage systems, medical gas, laboratory gas, pumping systems, water treatment, reclaimed water, and natural gas distribution systems.
• Take responsibility for drawings and specifications, meeting schedules and budgets, and directing assigned staff.
• Meet with clients and contractors.
• Interpret engineering data for designers and drafters.
• Check the drawings on a continuing basis to ensure accuracy and completeness and oversee deliverables to clients for quality control.
• Mentor and develop the skills of designers and drafters.
• Monitor the schedule and budgets for projects.
• Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects.
• Review and summarize applicable codes for inclusion in the project basis of design, drawings, and specifications.
• Coordinate plumbing work with other disciplines and consultants.
• Review shop drawings and answer requests for information.
• Prepare periodic project status reports for review by the Project Manager and the Department Director.
• Assist with writing project specifications as required for the plumbing scope of work.
• Visit project sites as requested or as contractually required to monitor construction progress and resolve issues in the field.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis.
• Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Coordinator" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
• Healthcare, Science and Technology and/or Civic facilities experience.
• Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required.
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• Preference given to local candidates.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and equipment selection software).
