The City and County of Honolulu is hiring for six Planner VI positions in urban planning across various departments, including Transit-Oriented Development and Transportation Services. The role involves supervising planning projects and requires analytical skills. Position Information

Are you an analytical and a critical

thinker questioning everything you see?

Supervises and participates in the development, analysis and completion of planning projects, or assumes project responsibility for a major special purpose study requiring initial development and management and where assignments are of a creative nature; and performs other related duties as required.

There are currently five (5) vacancies are with the Department of Planning and Permitting.
• Two (2) vacancies with the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Division
• Two (2) vacancies with the Planning Division
• One (1) vacancy with the Site Development Division

There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Transportation Services, Transportation Mobility Division.

Salary for the positions in the Department of Planning and Permitting (Planning Division and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Division) is commensurate with applicable experience: $6,399 to $7,485 per month, pending approval.*

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with specialization in city planning, architecture, engineering, economics, sociology, public administration or a related field.

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your education in order to be given credit. Please attach an electronic copy of your diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal or applicable FCE to your application. Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Four years of professional (post-bachelor's degree, non-clerical) work experience in city planning or related planning activities.

Such experience must demonstrate knowledge of the principles, practices, purposes, scope and techniques of the various phases of city planning, and the preparation, maintenance and operation of a comprehensive plan for a large metropolitan area; trends in Federal, State and local planning as they affect city planning; laws and ordinances relating to planning, zoning, land subdivision, and redevelopment; and principles and practices of supervision.

Desired Qualifications for Site Development Division:

Knowledge and experience administering flood hazard regulations or Certified Floodplain Managers (CFM).

Substitution: A Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from a regionally-accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of professional work experience in city planning or related planning experience.
