About the position

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the second largest school district in the nation, is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Overnight Camp Counselors for its Office of Outdoor and Environmental Education. This position involves supervising 5th grade students at Camp Skyhook, an overnight science camp located in the scenic San Gabriel Mountains, approximately 30 minutes from Pasadena and Glendale. The camp serves students from throughout greater Los Angeles, providing them with a unique opportunity to engage in outdoor education and environmental awareness. Camp counselors will work part-time, with available shifts running from Monday 10am to Wednesday 10am or Wednesday 12pm to Friday 12pm. Counselors will be responsible for supervising groups of 15-20 fifth grade students during various activities, including cabin time, meals, and free play. They will also assist trail teachers with hike supervision and instruction, counsel students on appropriate behavior, and promote a positive team atmosphere. Counselors will lead group-building activities, games, crafts, songs, and campfire skits, ensuring that all students have a memorable and enriching experience.
