Job Description

Climate Solutions is seeking an Oregon Director to lead their efforts in clean energy advocacy and policy in Portland, OR. This role involves developing strategies for climate policies, managing the Oregon policy team, and collaborating with legislators and stakeholders. The director will represent the organization publicly and ensure commitments to equity and diversity are integrated into their work. This is a full-time position based in Portland, Oregon.

Climate Solutions is a Northwest-based nonprofit that has been dedicated to accelerating clean energy solutions to the climate crisis for over twenty-five years. Climate Solutions works to advance local, regional, and state action on climate and clean energy by championing transformational policies and market-based innovations, catalyzing powerful partnerships, and fostering a diverse movement for action and accountability. The organization is acutely aware of the disproportionate impacts of the climate crisis and pollution from fossil fuels on communities of color, low-income populations, Tribal Nations, and frontline communities, both locally and globally. The Oregon Director will play a pivotal role in leading Climate Solutions' efforts in Oregon, providing senior leadership and cohesion to maximize the organization's impact in statewide policy advocacy and programs. This position requires a strategic leader who is deeply committed to equitable and just climate and clean energy solutions. The Oregon Director will be responsible for developing and executing both short- and long-term strategies for strong climate and clean energy policies in Oregon, coordinating regional resources, and representing Climate Solutions in various policy and coalition efforts. The role involves supervising the Oregon-based policy team, managing relationships with state legislators and diverse stakeholders, and serving as a key representative for the organization in public forums, media communications, and legislative hearings. The Oregon Director will also be expected to incorporate Climate Solutions' commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusion into all aspects of their work, participate in staff meetings and trainings, and meet reporting deadlines for various tasks. This full-time, exempt position is based in Portland, Oregon, and reports to the Director of Policy and Strategy.

Responsibilities
• Develop Climate Solutions' short- and long-term state strategy for strong climate and clean energy policies in Oregon, coordinating regional resources into these efforts.

• Represent Climate Solutions in multiple policy and coalition efforts and play a leadership role in building and winning campaigns, interfacing and mobilizing with allies in various communities.

• Supervise and manage Climate Solutions' Oregon-based policy team and contract lobbyists, as well as other staff and consultants as needed.
,
• Develop relationships and collaborate with state legislators, other policymakers, and coalitions of diverse stakeholders to support passage, implementation, and defense of equitable climate policies.

• Serve as a key Climate Solutions representative externally, including providing public presentations, communicating with media, testifying at hearings, and creating regular content for the organization's communications.

• Build and maintain a high level of expertise and credibility in Climate Solutions' areas of focus.
,
• Incorporate Climate Solutions' Equity, Diversity and Inclusion commitments into all aspects of the job.
,
• Participate in Climate Solutions staff meetings, trainings, racial equity conversations, and team meetings.
,
• Meet staff reporting deadlines for program, development, and administrative tasks.

Requirements
• More than five years of experience working in policy and advocacy spaces.
,
• At least two years of staff supervision experience.
,
• Experience working with diverse communities to advance equitable and just policies, preferably in climate, clean energy, electricity, buildings, and/or transportation.
,
• Experience with state or local politics or legislative, utility, or regulatory processes.
,
• A demonstrated commitment to racial justice and confronting institutional racism and inequity.

Nice-to-haves
• Knowledge of how climate change and climate policies impact different communities, especially communities of color and low-income communities.

• Functional skills with Microsoft Windows and Office Software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
