About the position

The NREM Ecological Economics Research Program Coordinator is a regular, full-time, limited-term position with the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR), Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM), located at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (UHM), in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. The position provides assistance to the ecological-economic research program within the Oleson lab, supporting the Principal Investigator (PI), post-doctoral fellows, and students in data-related needs for ongoing ecological-economic research projects. Responsibilities include collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data, creating analytical tools, and maintaining lab data management practices. The position also involves writing reports and proposals, enhancing lab online presence, and ensuring compliance with data management requirements.

Responsibilities
• Provides assistance to the ecological-economic research program within the Oleson lab.

• Supports Principal Investigator (PI), post-doctoral fellows, and students in data-related needs for ongoing ecological-economic research projects.
,
• Collects, cleans, wrangles, and quality controls data required for projects.
,
• Supports data analysis, interpretation, and visualization.
,
• Creates analytical tools and data interfaces for project teams.
,
• Writes analytical code for data analysis.
,
• Leads lab data management and trains lab members in best data management practices.
,
• Maintains lab code and data repository, GitHub, and website.
,
• Contributes to the oversight of connectivity across all goals and aspects of projects.
,
• Participates in meetings with project teams, project partners, and collaborators.
,
• Writes sections of and creates analyses and visualizations for reports, grant proposals, and manuscripts.

Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Environmental Science, Data Science, Economics, or closely related field with a quantitative focus.

• Two to four (2-4) years of experience analyzing and interpreting social-ecological data.
,
• Experience maintaining and managing data, including drafting data management operational procedures.
,
• Experience developing user-friendly data interfaces and tools.
,
• Experience creating outputs and visuals for presenting scientific research results.
,
• Experience supporting the writing of technical reports, grant proposals, and manuscripts for scientific publications.
,
• Knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R, Matlab).
,
• Working knowledge of data management best practices.
,
• Working knowledge of project website design and maintenance.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience using GIS databases and spatial analysis applications.

• Ability to effectively communicate analytical needs and explain quantitative products and tools.

• Familiarity with ecosystem service modeling and valuation.

• Experience working with students on their projects and mentoring them in data analysis and management.
