About the Role
SOLFL is seeking an experienced Nature Educator & Environmentalist with a passion for ecology, conservation, and hands-on environmental education. The ideal candidate will lead the implementation of SOLFL’s Web of Life curriculum, which immerses students in deep ecology, marine biology, conservation, and farming. This educator will manage outdoor learning spaces, including gardens, farms, and living classrooms, while also contributing to curriculum development.
Key Responsibilities
• Teach & Implement the Web of Life Curriculum: Engage students in immersive, hands-on learning experiences that connect them deeply to the local ecosystem, nature’s wisdom, and environmental conservation efforts.
• Lead Outdoor Learning Initiatives: Oversee and maintain SOLFL Living Classrooms, including organic gardens, aquaponics, composting systems, and other sustainability-focused spaces.
• Facilitate Marine & Conservation Education: Design and lead lessons focused on marine mammals, water conservation, ecosystems, and sustainability efforts in South Florida.
• Manage & Maintain Sustainable Ecosystems: Ensure the health and upkeep of gardens, farm spaces, and living laboratories, integrating real-world environmental problem-solving into student learning.
• Curriculum Development: Work collaboratively with the SOLFL curriculum team to design integrated thematic units that explore ecology, biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability for different age groups.
• Engage with Community & Experts: Connect students with local conservationists, farmers, and marine biologists to provide real-world context to learning experiences.
• Promote Environmental Stewardship: Instill a sense of responsibility and innovation in students to create sustainable solutions for the planet.
Ideal Background
• Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Education, Marine Biology, or related fields.
• Experience teaching outdoor, hands-on environmental education programs.
• Expertise in local ecosystems, marine life, conservation, and sustainable farming practices.
• Strong leadership and project management skills to maintain outdoor learning environments.
• Ability to engage students in interactive and inquiry-based learning experiences.
• Experience working with children and educators in a nature-based, experiential learning environment.
• Passion for deep ecology, sustainability, and fostering a connection between students and the natural world.
