Job Description

The State of South Carolina is hiring a Natural Resource Technician II for field management activities on Wildlife Management Areas in York, Chester, and Fairfield counties. Responsibilities include agricultural operations, managing waterfowl hunts, maintaining dove fields, conducting wildlife surveys, and assisting with research. Candidates need a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience or an associate degree. The job requires physical labor and may involve irregular hours.
Job Responsibilities

This employee will be responsible for implementing and conducting field management activities on WMAs within York, Chester and Fairfield counties.

Job Duties Include:
• Conducting and assisting with agricultural operations at Broad River Waterfowl area.
• Assisting in the management and conducting of lotter waterfowl hunts as needed.
• Coordinating and assisting with the planting, maintaining, and manipulating of dove fields and wildlife openings on WMA lands.
• Coordinating with the US Forest Service for conducting agricultural operations including the planting, fertilization, mowing, and land management of public dove fields on US Forest Service land.
• Assisting US Forest Service personnel on Federal lands as needed.
• Posting WMA lands within assigned counties.
• Performing maintenance and upkeep on information kiosks as needed.
• Maintaining infrastructure as needed on WMAs.
• Conducting population surveys for various wildlife species (bats, doves, quail).
• Assisting in research efforts such as trapping and banding doves and waterfowl.
• Maintaining records concerning project activities and preparing and submitting accurate reports.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and two (2) years of experience in wildlife or fisheries work or an associate degree in the technical sciences.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to efficiently operate agricultural equipment, tractors, and heavy equipment. Ability to work alone in remote areas. Ability to collect data accurately. Ability to interact in a positive manner with the general public. Farming knowledge preferred. Ability to conduct prescribed burns, post boundaries, conduct public hunts, and follow instructions. Ability to work irregular hours such as early mornings and late evenings. Ability to conduct physical labor and lift heavy objects. Knowledge of hand tools, chain saws, and weed eaters preferred.
