Job Description

The State of South Carolina is hiring a Natural Resource Technician II for wildlife management areas. Responsibilities include conducting public hunts, collecting biological data, maintaining vegetation, timber management, and participating in public education and research projects. Candidates need a high school diploma or associate degree with two years of related experience, and must be able to operate machinery and work with the public. This is a full-time position located in South Carolina.
Job Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for completing various tasks on wildlife management areas (WMA) within SCDNR’s Wildlife Unit 4D.

Job Duties Include:
• Assisting in conducting scheduled public hunts and collecting biological field data for wildlife harvested on WMAs within the unit.
• Maintaining herbaceous planting and conducting vegetation control.
• Conducting timber management and forestry related tasks.
• These include: prescribed burning, firebreak maintenance, planting of tree seedlings, timber marking and/or cruising and timber harvest monitoring.
• Assisting with maintenance and custodial duties.
• Participating in public education activities on Webb WMA complex and other WMAs within the unit.
• Participating in Research, Survey, and Wildlife Restoration Projects.
• Maintaining informational and boundary signs, and markings.
• Maintaining issued equipment.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and two (2) years of related experience in wildlife, fisheries or agricultural work; or an associate degree in the technical sciences.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and experience in wildlife and habitat management including forestry and agriculture. Basic knowledge of principles of wildlife biology. Ability to operate farm machinery and other heavy equipment, a vehicle, ATV, and boat and motor. Ability to lift heavy objects, work and communicate well with the general public, work some late evenings/early mornings. Ability to use shop tools and maintain equipment.
