The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has a permanent, full-time opening for the Land Resources Program Manager in the Habitat Division. This position is located in Salem, Oregon.

The Land Resources Program develops and coordinates implementation of the policies, plans, and programs necessary to maintain ecosystems and the habitat base to support fish and wildlife populations consistent with the State’s and ODFW’s conservation, recovery, and management goals. This position and the currently 5 staff positions it supervises work with regulatory agencies, federal and state land managers, Tribes, private landowners, private organizations, and individuals to identify and assist in providing the necessary habitat for the state’s diverse fish and wildlife.

Finally, the Land Resources Program facilitates and coordinates ODFW’s terrestrial habitat restoration work on natural and working lands.

What You Will Do:

The are two primary roles for the Land Resources Program Manager.

1. Habitat Policy Development and Implementation:
This position is responsible for developing and implementing policy for ODFW in the protection and enhancement of fish and wildlife and their habitat in the following natural resource areas:
• Fish and wildlife habitat protection, restoration, and mitigation;
• Maintaining natural resource integrity in land use and resource management;
• Representing ODFW when working with regulatory agencies, local governments, federal and state land, managers, Tribal land managers, and private landowners;
• Advancing ODFW’s strategic priorities of climate resiliency and natural & working lands conservation.
• Assisting ODFW’s Director’s Office in state legislative policy processes to provide technical information on fish and wildlife habitat needs;
• Reviewing and advising state, federal, and local agencies on projects related to land use, energy development, mining, waterway alterations, fill and removal activities, rangeland management, forest management, transportation, and other potential development or management actions;
• Coordination and facilitation of habitat restoration and enhancement projects on federal, state, private, and Tribal lands; and
• Implementation of federal and state Natural Resource Damage Assessment statutes.

2. Staff Supervision and Management:
This position is responsible for managing multiple staff in the Land Resources Program, including positions that address the impacts of development through other agencies’ regulatory processes as well as positions who focus on mitigating impacts on fish, wildlife, and habitat resources. Duties include recruitment and hiring, supervision and employee performance assessment, providing oversight on specific program issues, providing a vision and workplan for the program, and developing and overseeing program budgets.
