Job Description
The State of Idaho is hiring a Natural Resource Field Technician in Boise, ID, to assist the Natural Resources Program Manager in wildlife and floristic resource evaluation on National Guard training lands. This physically demanding position requires outdoor work in various weather conditions and may involve irregular hours. Applicants must be members of the Idaho National Guard or request a waiver, possess a valid driver's license, and meet specific qualifications.

TYPE OF POSITION: Military Waived non-classified
SUMMARY: This position is located in the Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO), Environmental Management Office (EMO), Idaho Army National Guard (IDARNG), functioning within the Idaho Military Division (IMD). The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Natural Resources Program Manager in surveying, recording, and evaluating wildlife and floristic resources on National Guard training lands. Appointment will involve physically demanding work outdoors in various weather conditions and may involve irregular hours worked on weekends and/or evenings.

MILITARY DIVISION MANDATORY QUESTIONS:
(1) Except for minor traffic offenses, have you ever entered a plea of guilty, no contest, or had a withheld judgment to a felony offense? If YES, please explain on a separate paper and attach it to your application.
(2) Do you certify that I am a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or a Foreign National with authorization to work in the United States?
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
(1) Must be a member of the Idaho National Guard. Provide your military grade, job title, MOS/AFSC/AOC and unit of assignment. Military requirement has been waived for this position. Please indicate request for waiver.
(2) Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted state issued driver’s license (from any state). Provide your driver’s license number, issuing state, license expiration date, and the full name specified on the license. (Do not provide a copy of your driver’s license.)
(3) Must have, or be eligible to obtain, and maintain a favorable NACI/T1 Federal Background Investigation. If a selected candidate does not have a current favorable NACI/T1, as a condition of employment he/she must submit to the investigation process immediately upon hire/appointment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in the field of ecology, wildlife biology, or other related field; or be in the process of earning such degree with 2 field seasons of wildlife or ecological monitoring.
(2) Prior paid field experience in wildlife or ecological monitoring in Southwestern Idaho or experience in Idaho National Guard natural resource monitoring programs (RTLA, LEPA, etc.).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Must have 12-months of specialized experience performing duties
(1) Knowledge of biological sciences and experience in applying the knowledge in wildlife and ecological research and monitoring activities.
(2) Knowledge of natural, physical, or cultural resource conservation, utilization, and sustainment methods, practices, and procedures.
(3) Knowledge of scientific collection techniques, associated tools, tracking/monitoring methods, data management, labeling, filing, and preservation techniques and the experience to safely conduct collection activities.
(4) Knowledge of natural resource regulations, law, and statute, and the associated government agencies with jurisdiction, and experience applying this knowledge in permitting, data collection, reporting, and monitoring activities.
(5) Knowledge and experience in the safe operation of four-wheel drive vehicles and all-terrain vehicles in all types of conditions over rough, rocky, or uneven roads, including knowledge required to change tires, recover stuck vehicles, or avoid/address other road hazards.
(6) Knowledge in the use of handheld computers/data loggers, global positioning system devices, cameras, compasses, maps, animal traps, and other field equipment.
