Job Description
TreePeople is seeking a Mountain Forestry Coordinator in Los Angeles, CA, to support restoration programs in local mountain ranges. Responsibilities include organizing tree planting events, monitoring restoration sites, engaging volunteers, and maintaining communication with partners. The role requires proficiency in G-suite and experience in habitat restoration. The Coordinator will work on-site, meeting at TreePeople's Studio City location up to four times a week, making it a non-remote position.
About the position
TreePeople is an environmental nonprofit organization dedicated to creating green, resilient communities through education and action. The Mountain Forestry Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting restoration programs in the Santa Monica Mountains, Angeles National Forest, and other local mountain ranges. This position involves organizing and facilitating tree planting and care events, monitoring restoration sites, and ensuring the successful execution of various forestry initiatives. The Coordinator will work closely with the Mountain Forestry (Sr.) Program Manager or Associate Program Manager to coordinate these efforts, which may include meeting at TreePeople's Studio City location up to four times a week to pick up work vehicles and travel to work sites that can be 1-2.5 hours away. In addition to event organization, the Coordinator will support program operations, which includes project preparation, event support, and follow-up tasks. This role requires proficiency in G-suite for data entry and the ability to quickly learn new software. The Coordinator will also be responsible for engaging volunteers in restoration projects, which includes training volunteer supervisors and ensuring effective project preparation and follow-up. A key aspect of this position is to maintain communication with various partners, such as the USFS, National Park Service, and LA County, to identify and track restoration projects while meeting partner expectations. The Mountain Forestry Coordinator will also assist with grant report data collection and narrative analysis, as well as provide basic operational training for new hires and Americorps members. Secondary responsibilities include participating in outreach efforts, supporting TreePeople's nursery activities, and representing the organization at meetings and events.
Responsibilities

• Support program operations including project preparation, event support, and follow-up.

• Conduct weekly data entry and manage data collection using G-suite and other software.

• Train and supervise volunteers participating in restoration projects.

• Maintain communication with partners such as USFS and National Park Service to track restoration projects.

• Assist with grant report data collection and narrative analysis.

• Participate in outreach efforts including tabling and speaking at events.
,
• Support nursery activities including seed collection and propagation.
Requirements
• One year of experience in field work related to habitat restoration, wildlife management, or similar areas.

• Strong familiarity with local mountain ranges and their ecosystems.
,
• Sincere interest in environmental conservation and Southern California's wilderness areas.

• Organized, proactive, and possess a strong work ethic with good public speaking skills.

• Valid California driver's license and clean driving record.
,
• Ability to work a 4/10 schedule including some weekends.

• Proficiency in G-suite and willingness to learn new data entry platforms.

• Willingness to learn plant identification and volunteer organizing.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience in volunteer organizing is a plus.

• Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
