Job Description

Climate Risk Services is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate for its Mining Advisory team in Canada. The role involves leading client relationships, project implementation, and data analysis to manage climate-related risks. Candidates will support clients in developing actionable insights for climate resilience and contribute to product development. The position requires strong collaboration and communication skills to engage stakeholders and present findings effectively.

Climate Risk Services offers advisory services alongside development of product solutions for managing climate risk. On the advisory side, we support clients through governance of climate as a material risk issue and a regulatory compliance issue, building an understanding of how climate should factor into business and operational strategies, developing robust risk management processes and frameworks, and data-based analysis and assessment of climate risks for markets, investment or lending portfolios, and at the asset-level. On the product development side, we are building exciting platform-based enterprise level solutions to support our clients in embedding climate into strategic and financial decision-making. We are focused on turning climate data science into actionable insights, bridging the gap between climate science and financial and operational decision-making, to shift capital to climate adaptation and climate mitigation and build resilient companies.

The successful candidate will have an integral and leading role in our Advisory team, supporting clients in identifying, assessing, and managing climate-related and environmental risks; with an opportunity to contribute to product development by drawing advisory insights into continual improvement.

What you’ll be doing:

From Day 1, you will lead key client relationships with strong support from our senior leadership team. You will have responsibilities across all aspects of client engagement: identifying issues, forming a response, leading projects, conducting and overseeing analysis, developing practical and actionable insights and presenting them to clients. You’ll have a voice to support continual improvement of approaches and methodologies and will also contribute to product development by applying an understanding of client needs and tangible outcomes.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

· Leading project implementation, with a collaborative team and strong senior support

· Presenting project results including analysis and recommendations, through preparation of influential business cases for acting on recommendations

· Overseeing data analysis, synthesis and interpretation, turning the results into clear and practical actions for clients to build climate resilience and improve their climate risk management

· Developing recommendations and implementation plans, supporting clients to act on insight and opportunities for climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience

· Building visibility by presenting training sessions or webinars, and communicating complex climate data to stakeholders

· Establishing and maintaining other stakeholder relationships, such as industry relationships

· Potential to hold responsibility for a small team of 1-2 direct reports in the future, with coaching

· Business proposal development, based on a clear understanding of the client’s objectives

· Business development activities, with coaching and support from your manager

Topics and areas of work embedded into projects will include:

· Climate-related risks and opportunity analysis, both physical risk and transition risk

· Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions assessments & analysis for prioritization of decarbonisation actions

· Development of supplier engagement plans for supply chain decarbonisation

· Climate scenario planning, both qualitative and quantitative

· Development of decarbonisation strategies & approaches, including trade-off studies

· Climate-related disclosures such as for TCFD, IFRS S2 (CSSB, UK SDS, EU ESRS), TNFD

· Gap analyses & recommendations for alignment to similar standards

· Benchmarking & industry analysis

· Strategic recommendations for building climate resilience

· Development of climate transition plans (TPT aligned or otherwise)

· Preparation of or input to CDP disclosures

· Evaluation of the role or key criteria for carbon credits and offsets in decarbonisation

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for someone who is high capacity and high-performing, takes initiative, has strong interpersonal skills & relationship management, and is action-oriented. The ideal candidate has worked in the mining industry (or related heavy industries) and understands perspectives of the sector, challenges, and constraints. We are looking for EITHER one of:
• 3-7+ years experience in a medium or large corporation particularly with a focus on sustainability or risk management,

OR:
• 3-7+ years experience in professional services across some/any of climate risk, climate data, climate analytics, emissions assessment or analytics, ESG, disclosures & reporting, sustainability;

Along with:
• Experience in the mining industry or related heavy industries
• Under-graduate degree in a relevant discipline, for example engineering, environmental risk and policy, finance, or economics
• Understanding of the links between climate change, business risk and value creation.

· Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving

· Excellent written/verbal communication skills & interpersonal skills, collaborative approach

· Self-starting, entrepreneurial mind-set, and desire to grow the business

· Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice-to-have:

· Project management certification; PMP or Prince2

Compensation

Compensation range for hire: $85,000-$120,000 with a discretionary performance-related bonus of up to 10%. In addition to salary, we offer a performance-based bonus, 25 days holidays, flexible working options, and RRSP contribution matching.

Location

This role is based in Canada and will be remote working. Candidate will be expected to occasionally travel to Toronto, Vancouver, or other parts of Canada for client work or business development. Candidates must have the right-to-work in Canada, we are unable to sponsor visas at this time.
