Description:

As a Biogeochemist, you will support projects that span multiple disciplines within our organization in order to deliver high quality and sustainable solutions to our clients. You will have the opportunity to expand your career by working on exciting and high-profile mining and energy projects.

This position is an exciting opportunity that blends desk consulting work with hands-on testing and development in our one-of-a-kind facilities in Saskatoon. The role is expected to have 25% hands-on and 75% desk work on development, analysis, and reporting.

Your role will contribute to our mission of developing sustainable solutions through conducting research, studies, analysis, and quality control and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:
• Analyze, interpret, and report on data from pilot and full-scale water treatment systems for the resources sector.
• Contribute to water management and treatment designs through calculations and science based risk assessments, including calculations related to redox reactions and biogeochemistry
• Support with water treatment projects from initial site studies to pilot and demonstration scale through to implementation.
• Apply commonly used calculations and screening parameters efficiently to water quality datasets.
• Draft figures, tables, and summary bullet points for reports and proposals.
• Technical reviews of documents written by others.
• Contribute to optimizing processes and operations.
• Maintain deadlines and timelines of projects and communicate potential timing/resourcing conflicts.
• Support the laboratory team in performing sampling and monitoring of water parameters for pilot-scale and laboratory-scale passive and semi-passive water treatment systems.
• Refine and implement processes that enhance productivity and efficiency.

Position Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Applied/Environmental Microbiology, Geochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline, with hands-on laboratory experience.
• Preference will be given to applicants with 3+ years of applied experience in microbiological and/or geochemical analysis within environmental, mining, or water sectors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Hands-on laboratory experience, preferably including water sampling, photometers, multimeters, and dosing pumps.

• Scientific awareness, paying attention to real-time observations and results with proactive communication to other team members.
• Proactive, organized, and safety-conscious approach to laboratory and pilot work.
• A collaborative mindset that contributes to a positive and innovative team culture.
• You pay keen attention to detail, and in your cover letter, include a very brief description of your favourite biogeochemical reaction.

Additional skills that would be advantageous, please highlight in your cover letter which of these technical skills you possess:
