Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Portland, OR, is seeking a seasoned attorney with substantial experience in transactional tax matters related to the energy sector. This opportunity is tailored for a legal professional who has advised on renewable energy project transactions, tax equity financing, and mergers & acquisitions. The role involves working closely with a diverse range of clients, including utilities, energy developers, investors, and financial institutions, particularly those engaged in clean energy initiatives such as solar, wind, storage, and carbon capture. This position offers significant client exposure and collaboration across firm-wide teams, with a strong emphasis on growth and leadership within the tax practice.

Duties:
• Structure and advise on tax aspects of transactions involving renewable energy projects
• Represent clients in tax equity investments and related project financings
• Draft partnership agreements and prepare tax opinions related to energy deals
• Provide counsel on mergers and acquisitions in the energy and infrastructure sectors
• Engage with stakeholders, including project sponsors, investors, lenders, and regulated utility affiliates
• Collaborate with attorneys and departments across multiple practice areas
• Participate in professional development through speaking engagements and publishing thought leadership

Requirements:
• 5-8 years of legal experience in transactional tax matters
• Substantial experience advising on renewable energy tax credit transactions
• Familiarity with project finance structures and partnership taxation
• Strong writing, communication, and client-facing skills
• Ability to manage multiple high-level matters independently and within a team

Education:
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:
• Admission to the Oregon State Bar and in good standing

Skills:
• Expertise in tax law, particularly in the context of renewable energy and infrastructure
• Proficiency in drafting legal documents, tax opinions, and complex agreements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to communicate clearly with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues
• Strategic thinking in navigating federal tax incentives and structuring energy deals
