Mechanic’s Helper

Coquitlam, BC Full-time $25.00/hour

Emterra operates four major Recycling and Waste Centers in Metro Vancouver, receiving and managing large volumes of waste while promoting recycling and the green economy. We are looking to hire an Entry Level Mechanic’s Helper for our United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for diagnosing and repairing facility equipment in a safe and timely manner.

Job Duties
• Assist in troubleshooting and repairs of mobile and fixed equipment, including hydraulic and electrical systems;
• Test repaired equipment for proper performance;
• Maintain up-to-date/organized work orders;
• Communicate regularly with manager, lead hand and team regarding repair status and concerns;
• Work as part of a team to support the daily needs of the operation;
• Maintain a clean & organized shop/equipment work area;
• Suggest positive changes to processes or procedures to enhance operational efficiency; and
• Observe safe work practices.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area and surrounding area.
• Maintain an excellent attendance record and an excellent safety and work quality record.

What You Will Bring
• Experience with electrical or electronics systems an asset;
• Good foundation of basic knowledge of mechanics
• Strong troubleshooting skills;
• Basic proficiency with use of computers;
• Asset: Previous work experience in working with online preventative maintenance programs;
• Ability to stand/lift 60lbs/carrying/bending/twisting for periods at a time/repeatedly;
• Effective communication skills (both written & verbal); and
• Punctual, reliable, team player
• Diagnose and complete all repairs safely and within company policy and manufacturer specifications;
