Responsibilities include designing, fabricating, and testing subsystems, collaborating with teams, and developing manufacturable designs. Candidates should have a degree in mechanical engineering, experience with complex mechanical systems, and strong hands-on skills. The position is full-time and located on-site.
Mesodyne is a startup company revolutionizing power generation with its innovative LightCell technology--using thermophotovoltaics to provide efficient, silent, reliable, long-endurance power from any fuel. By bridging the gap between batteries and internal combustion engines, Mesodyne's LightCell technology provides more than a 10x improvement in endurance for unmanned vehicles, wearables, and various other equipment. At Mesodyne, we are committed to bringing groundbreaking products to the industrial and defense sectors, with multiple existing contracts and numerous upcoming business opportunities.

We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in transitioning the LightCell technology to its first commercial product and beyond.

Responsibilities:
• Own the design, fabrication, integration, testing, and optimization subsystems of the LightCell: heat exchangers, vacuum packages, cooling systems, etc.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to build prototypes for deployment in government and commercial pilot projects.
• Transition from prototypes to a scalable, manufacturable design. Own in-house and outsourced manufacturing processes from a handful of prototypes though 10's and 100's of units and beyond.
• Develop ruggedized designs to meet environmental requirements.

Qualifications and skills:
• BS or MS/MEng in mechanical engineering, or other engineering field with strong mechanical engineering skills, is required.
• Experience creating complex mechanical systems is required: ideation, CAD, design for manufacturing, integration, testing, etc. Prior industry experience is desired but not required: strong extracurricular project, personal projects, and undergraduate research projects will meet this requirement.
• Demonstrated ability to build physical prototypes is required. Strong hands-on skills working with intricate mechanical assemblies are required. Prior mill and lathe experience is highly desired.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including tracking parts though intricate multistep processes.
• Strong communication skills, including preparing drawings and communicating with vendors.
• Eagerness to learn new skills on the job is required: vacuum technology, combustion engineering, optical and optomechanical systems, high temperature materials, welding/brazing technology, and other fields relevant to the LightCell.

Location:

This position is based at our facility in Somerville, MA.

Join Mesodyne and be part of a pioneering company at the forefront of power generation technology. If you are a motivated self-starter ready to embrace challenges in a dynamic startup environment, we encourage you to apply.
