Job Description

The Campus Resource & Sustainability Coordinator position at AmeriCorps, hosted by the University of Montana, focuses on enhancing student success through sustainability initiatives. The Office of Sustainability at the University of Montana facilitates and supports a campus culture of environmental stewardship in keeping with our mission of inclusive prosperity and ‘resourceful stewardship of the land that sustains us.’ The Campus Resource & Sustainability Coordinator is a full-time AmeriCorps position hosted at the University of Montana through the Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE). This role supports student success by developing and implementing programs that expand food and essential resource access while advancing civic engagement opportunities on campus.


The Coordinator oversees the development and operations of a student-facing Campus Thrift Store, implementing systems to provide affordable goods while diverting reusable materials from the waste stream. A central focus of this position is strengthening student food security through the Catering Cupboard, developing partnerships that connect surplus campus dining food to the campus food pantry, reducing food waste while expanding student meal access. The Coordinator also develops and evaluates zero waste programming at Griz Stadium, coordinating student involvement in sustainability initiatives that connect individual action to broader community impact.


Montana Campus
Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE) serves as the intermediary for this project. MCNCE is a coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to fostering civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across Montana. Led by CEOs from participating institutions, MCNCE works to improve community life and educate students on civic and social responsibility, preparing them to be thoughtful, compassionate, and engaged leaders.
Member Duties : The member will oversee operations of the Loop, UM's student-facing campus thrift store, implementing systems for materials intake and inventory tracking to expand student access to affordable goods and campus resources including the ASUM food pantry. The member will develop partnerships with Bear Necessities and UM Catering to implement food collection and distribution systems that reduce food waste while expanding student meal access. The member will implement waste reduction initiatives through waste audits, develop composting programs for student apartments, and train zero waste ambassadors to coordinate sustainable events at Griz Stadium.
