Description
A.I.S., Inc. provides scientific services supporting fisheries management and environmental compliance across the United States. This position supports the National Marine Fisheries Service by collecting biological and operational data aboard commercial fishing vessels.
Work takes place offshore on multi-day fishing trips, gathering data on catch composition, fishing activity, and protected species interactions. The role contributes to sustainable fisheries management by providing critical data used to assess fish stocks and inform regulatory decisions.
Responsibilities
Collect biological samples and fisheries data aboard commercial vessels
Record detailed information on fishing gear, effort, and catch
Monitor and document incidental catch including marine mammals and seabirds
Conduct data entry and ensure accuracy of collected information
Follow established sampling protocols and safety procedures
Participate in pre-deployment training and certification
Collaborate with fisheries scientists and program staff
Maintain compliance with federal observation program requirements
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in marine biology, biology, or related field with required coursework
Completion of at least one course in math or statistics
Experience with computer-based data entry
Ability to meet physical requirements for offshore work
Authorization to work in the United States
Reliable personal transportation
Ability to commit to at least one year in the program
Preferred Qualifications
At-sea experience
Coursework in dichotomous keys
Additional Notes
Full-time position with deployments lasting 7 to 14 days offshore
Training provided in Falmouth, Massachusetts with accommodations and meals covered
Work hours range from 40 to 60 hours per week

Must live within 50 miles of Narragansett, Rhode Island
