Conservation Corps North Bay is seeking a Zero Waste Program Supervisor in Novato, CA, to oversee 1-8 corpsmembers in implementing recycling services. The role involves managing the collection of various recyclables, conducting outreach and education on environmental stewardship, and planning special recycling events. The supervisor will mentor corpsmembers in personal and professional development while contributing to community conservation efforts. This full-time position supports CCNB's mission of youth empowerment and environmental sustainability.

Title: Zero Waste Program Supervisor

Department: Zero Waste Program

Reports to: Zero Waste Lead Supervisor

FLSA Status: Full time, Hourly, Non-Exempt from wage & hour laws

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm, plus scheduled weekend and evenings during the year

Directly Supervises: 1 - 8 Corpsmembers

SUMMARY:

Conservation Corps North Bay provides professional job and educational development opportunities for individuals aged 18-30 years through a variety of environmentally-focused community service-based programs. CCNB operates an extensive recycling collection program that is vital to agencies in Marin and Sonoma County parks and preserved lands. Over 300,000 pounds of beverage containers, 900,000 of electronic waste, and 3,000 tires are collected by CCNB each year from around the North Bay. In addition, CCNB’s Corpsmembers conduct outreach and educate thousands of students, businesses, and community volunteers about recycling and environmental stewardship.

The Zero Waste (ZW) Program Supervisor provides daily supervision of 1-8 corpsmembers and implementing a wide range of recycling services for the community including, but not limited to, the collection and proper handling of cans and bottles, electronic waste, waste tires, mattresses, carpet, and edible food. The Zero Waste Supervisor conducts our recycling collection program which includes servicing locations throughout the county including parks, beaches, municipalities, and private businesses. The Zero Waste Supervisor also helps plan and supervise special events for the collection of mattresses, E-waste, waste tires, and cans and bottles, recycling education, and outreach. The Zero Waste Supervisor continually guides and mentors corpsmembers in personal and professional development, professionalism, public interaction, environmental ethics, recycling, and waste management issues. This position works directly with and reports to the Zero Waste Crew Lead Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Other duties may be assigned.

Project Management:
• Supervise, direct, and motivate 1 – 8 Corpsmembers
• Develop and coordinate daily work schedules and documentation.
• Ensure the tasks, objectives, and scopes of work of assigned projects are met in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
• Facilitate Corpsmembers’ personal and professional development. Evaluate performance and enforce program policies. Train corpsmembers on recycling and zero waste operations and perform outreach at special events.
• Ensure that all safety procedures are followed, and proper infrastructure and training are implemented to meet all local, state, and federal regulations.
• Efficiently and safely operate box, flat, and compactor trucks to conduct recycling collection operations.

Program Development:
• Ensure crews follow CCNB operating procedures around the collection and storage of E-waste, tires, and other regulated materials in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Conduct education and outreach to the community as directed by the Zero Waste Lead Supervisor and Coordinator.
• Work with other CCNB program staff to develop project goals, objectives, and program-specific training.
• Identify and implement efficiencies to meet budget requirements as directed by the Zero Waste Program Manager.

Administration:
• Document collection of e-waste and waste tires in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Capture and record all project data into the appropriate databases.
• Represent program and organization at a variety of public forums.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to shifting tasks, responsibilities, and program needs.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and mediate disputes in a positive, motivating fashion.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong MS Office software skills: specifically, Word and Excel.
• Ability to capture and upload data into data management platform
• California Driver’s License and DMV record with one point or less.
• First Aid/CPR certification (or do so within 6 months of hire)
• Flexibility to limit vacation time during the program’s busy period (May 1st – October 31st)
• Spanish language skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Understanding of recycling, waste management, and conservation issues.
• Demonstrated experience supervising youth from a wide variety of social, economic, and educational backgrounds to work together as a team.
• Knowledge of conservation corps programs or similar job training/educational programs.
• Experience training youth to properly operate large vehicles and perform carpentry work.
• Experience articulating recycling, waste management, and conservation issues to a diverse audience.
• Experience with e-waste, waste tires, and oil recycling operations and community education.
• Experience operating commercial vehicles and performing basic carpentry
• Experience serving and volunteering in the community.
• Strong service ethic with the ability to instill this ethic into team members.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to walk; use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls. Also, the employee may lift up to 50 lbs, pull up to 150 lbs, reach with hands and arms, and perform simple grasping and fine manipulation. Other situations include sitting at a desk using a computer and in meetings; driving or riding in a flatbed truck for long periods; intermittently twisting to reach equipment surrounding the desk and climbing the ladder to a flatbed truck.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The ZW Supervisor position is an hourly, non-exempt position that is eligible for a full benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, 403(b) retirement, Holiday and Paid Time Off. Starting pay for this position is $24.00 an hour.
