Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Managing Engineer for our Environmental and Earth Sciences Practice in Pasadena, CA. In this role you will work as part of a team to provide high-level scientific support for projects centering on evaluation of flooding, geomorphology, water resources and water quality, contaminant transport and fate, and evaluation of the impacts of climate change. The ideal candidate should be willing to expand their area of expertise into emerging environmental issues including climate change impacts on water supply and environmental quality, evolving policy related to water quality and waste management, and contaminants of emerging concern.
You

will be responsible for
• Examining surface water hydrology, flooding, and geomorphology
• Analyzing the impacts of climate change on hydrology (floods, droughts, snowpack, and water supply impacts)
• Synthesizing technical information and applying critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations
• Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Environmental and Earth Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate
• Developing client relationships and building business in the Environmental and Earth Sciences Practice
You will have the following skills and qualifications
• Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental or Geologic Engineering, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, Limnology, Water Resources, or similar discipline
• Registered professional engineer
• Minimum 4 years of experience in consulting or government agency (e.g., regulatory agency, Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA)
• Experience with common surface water modeling and GIS tools is desired (1-D and 2-D HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, FLO-2D, computational fluid dynamics models such as Delft-3D, etc.)
• Experience modeling chemical fate and transport is a plus
• Expertise in large dataset visualization
• Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills
• Must be detail-oriented, able to work independently and as part of a team, and manage time effectively
• Strong ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines
• Strong commitment to personal and professional development
