Job summary:
This role will be responsible for the timely delivery of high-quality consultancy mandates on sustainability topics for clients with the most recognized brands in the world, spanning sectors like food & beverage, agricultural trading & processing, forestry, retail, fashion and cosmetics. You will support South Pole’s Agricultural Value Chains (AVC) team in developing leading solutions that help clients understand GHG emissions and water impacts across their entire value chain, set targets, prioritise mitigation strategies, and facilitate on-the-ground reduction initiatives. This work will also incorporate topics like carbon sequestration and removals, land-use change, deforestation, and biodiversity.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
Manage and supervise medium- to large-size sustainability consulting mandates throughout their entire project cycle: initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure. Interact and build relationships with our industry leaders and strategic partners.. Incorporate technical leadership in proposals and projects and continue to develop and improve specialised skills and knowledge as tools and guidance dictating how companies can implement and measure their impact evolve. Lead and directly manage small teams of consultants in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies context. Topics of engagement may include sustainability and corporate supply chain risks with particular focus on climate, water and forests in agricultural supply chains.
Requirements:
Essential -
University degree, ideally in Environmental Sciences, Agronomy, Environmental Engineering or related disciplines. Relevant work experience (the expectation is a minimum of 5 years) in sustainability consulting or related field, including experience in the following areas:Quantifying climate impacts associated with agricultural operations and/or products in line with best practice methodologies; Assessing &/or supporting implementation of interventions that address climate impacts; Evaluating reduction targets & strategies. Relevant knowledge of environmental sustainability challenges in multinational companies, especially with the integration of sustainability in supply chains and agriculture. Good project management skills, from both a technical and administrative standpoint, and ability to coordinate project teams in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies context. Advanced stakeholder and client management skills. Demonstrable commercial skills and good business sense to be able to identify and seize opportunities in a challenging and competitive market environment. Excellent oral and written skills in English. Comfortable operating in a fast-paced international environment.
Desirable -
Practical experience in:Monitoring and quantification of environmental impacts along the supply chain on climate, water and forests -with agricultural supply chains in tropical countries and project development/program management. Sustainable procurement, change management and sustainability strategy development. Frameworks like the GHG Protocol Land Sector & Removals guidance and Science Based Targets initiative for Forest, Land and Agriculture sectors A Master’s degree will be an advantage.
