The Manager, Interconnection and Grid Integration at Pattern Energy is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of electrical interconnection and delivery strategies for the company's generation and transmission projects. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of transmission systems and the ability to assess and implement strategies that enhance the company's transmission positions. The successful candidate will be involved in evaluating potential project sites based on transmission considerations, supporting the interconnection process, and providing assessments of transmission-related market dynamics. This role is integral to ensuring that Pattern Energy can effectively navigate the complexities of the electric industry and capitalize on market opportunities across North America. In this role, the manager will support the interconnection process for various projects, which includes assessing interconnection options, filing necessary applications, and evaluating utility technical studies. The position also involves collaboration with Development, Power Marketing, and Operations teams to assess power delivery options and risks. The manager will serve as an expert on transmission-related market design and regulatory issues, monitoring key developments and providing recommendations to enhance the company's strategic positioning. Additionally, the manager will provide technical support for the development and conceptual design of major switchyard and transmission line projects, identifying and recommending new transmission development project opportunities. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to prioritize multiple projects, and a thorough knowledge of FERC transmission tariffs and NERC standards. The manager will also act as the primary interface with utilities and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) across various electric regions, ensuring that Pattern Energy maintains strong relationships and effective communication with key stakeholders.
Responsibilities
• Evaluate potential project sites based on transmission considerations.
,
• Support the interconnection process for Pattern projects, from assessment of interconnection options to execution of interconnection agreements.
,
• Assist Development, Power Marketing, and Operations in assessing power delivery options and risks.
,
• Provide assessments of transmission-related market dynamics, such as LMP pricing and congestion risks.
,
• Serve as an expert on transmission-related market design and regulatory issues, monitoring key developments and providing recommendations.
,
• Provide technical support for the development and conceptual design of major switchyard and transmission line projects.
,
• Identify and recommend transmission development project opportunities.
,
• Serve as Pattern's transmission interface with utilities and RTOs across one or more electric regions.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (e.g., engineering, physics) with experience in Power Systems.
,
• A minimum of five (5) years in the electric industry, with transmission planning experience preferred.
,
• Direct experience in renewable energy development or design is a plus.
,
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
,
• Ability to prioritize requests and resolve multiple issues under demanding schedule constraints.
,
• Thorough knowledge of FERC transmission tariffs, interconnection processes, and NERC standards.
,
• Ability to function effectively while traveling.
,
• Thorough understanding of electrical power engineering language and terms.
,
• A keen business sense beyond engineering and a sense of urgency in completing tasks.

• Professional Engineering Registration encouraged.
,
• Significant experience with power flow base cases and analysis tools such as PowerWorld, PSSE, TARA, UPLAN, PROMOD, PSLF.

• Proficiency in software applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.

• Coding experience (e.g., Python) is a plus.
