Purpose:

The Manager of Environmental Services oversees all phases of the Environmental Services (EVS) department, including housekeeping, linen, laundry, and waste management to provide a clean, sanitary and safe environment for all visitors, patients and residents in compliance with all local, state, federal, and regulatory mandates and standards. Ensure compliance with LEED certification standards with all cleaning equipment, products and solutions.

Responsibilities:
• Actively participates in the financial management of the department- Participates in annual budget process;
• Provides timely, accurate reporting of departmental financial reporting and budget variances.
• Ensures that all equipment is up-to-date and properly maintained; requests timely repair or replacement to provide safe and optimal operation.
• Participates in all Human Resource functions as it relates to recruitment, selection, and on-boarding of new departmental associates.
• Considers both technical and cultural fit when hiring new associates;
• Develops appropriate training and orientation programs for new hire and ongoing education.
• Participates in Supply Chain Management committees and activities as it relates to Environmental Services, including contracted services as appropriate.
• Assures the overall cleanliness and appearance of the facilities.
• Ensures the consistent practice of all infection control practices, including universal precautions.
• Researches new developments in cleaning supplies, equipment and practices to support LEED hospital certification and standards.
• Provides overall direction and oversight of housekeeping, laundry, linen, and waste management services.
• Provides direction for all supervisors and associates within area of responsibility. - Serves as a role-model for service excellence to supervisors and associates.
• Mentors and develops associates and supervisors through orientation, ongoing training and development, and all aspects of performance management.
• Provides associates with ongoing feedback in the form of departmental goals and performance measures, individual performance evaluation, and performance improvement plans.
• Ensures safe, adequate staffing on all shifts and adjusts accordingly with fluctuations in census and other facility activity.
• Actively participates in various hospital and system committees to support the mission, vision, and values of UPMC.
• Maintains department standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including The Joint Commissions;
• Develops goals and objectives for Environmental Services in accordance with the organizational mission, vision, and values.
• Effectively communicates organizational values and goals; mentors staff to understand, share, and support these goals and objectives.
• Actively seeks and incorporates best practices into all goals and objectives.
• Bachelor's degree required in business or health related field and 3 years of experience or High School Diploma and 7 years experience.
• 3-5 years supervisory/managerial experience
• 3-5 years of experience in healthcare, hospital, or nursing home setting, preferably in housekeeping/EVS
• Experience in customer service and quality/process improvement preferred.
• Effective communication and team building skills.
• Demonstrated organizational and management skills.
• Knowledge of policies, procedures, and state, federal, and Joint Commission regulatory requirements.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
• Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) preferred.
