WTS Energy is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Kajiado, Kenya, to ensure operational reliability at a power generation facility. Role Overview WTS Energy is a global workforce management company serving the energy sector, with operations across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. As a Maintenance Technician in Kajiado, you will be the backbone of operational reliability for a power generation facility. Your work ensures that wind turbine fleets, high-voltage substations, transformers, and electrical distribution networks operate safely and continuously. This is a hands-on role that demands technical precision, safety discipline, and the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical systems under real-world constraints. Key Responsibilities Execute predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on wind turbines, power transformers, switchgears, circuit breakers, medium voltage underground cables, Ring Main Units, and substation auxiliaries Conduct diagnostic testing on electrical systems and machinery; identify root causes of faults using technical drawings and specialized test equipment Respond rapidly to equipment breakdowns and system failures; perform on-site repairs, installations, or temporary measures to restore operation Manage work orders from definition through completion; secure spare parts, verify technical specifications, and maintain inventory records Install and repair medium and high-voltage electrical components in compliance with technical specifications and Kenya power system standards Maintain comprehensive maintenance logs and prepare weekly, monthly, and annual reports documenting work completed, issues identified, and recommendations Interpret technical instructions, electrical schematics, and process diagrams to guide maintenance activities Support engineering teams on installation projects and capacity expansion; prepare drawings and implementation plans Comply with all health, safety, and environmental procedures including lockout/tagout systems, work permits, and KPLC regulations Collaborate with maintenance engineers and inventory teams to forecast spare parts needs and optimize resource use Required Skills & Experience Design and execute testing protocols on 33/220 kV substation equipment; verify operation of power transformers, switchgears, circuit breakers, current transformers, and surge arresters Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults in complex power systems using technical drawings, test results, and systematic troubleshooting methods Perform lockout/tagout procedures safely and document compliance; understand Kenya electrical safety standards and KPLC grid regulations Prepare and control work orders; estimate labor and materials, schedule activities, and track completion to prevent delays and cost overruns Operate industrial testing equipment, power tools, and hand tools with precision; maintain tools and equipment according to manufacturer specifications Record maintenance history, component performance data, and corrective actions in digital and paper logs; prepare trend analyses for management review Install and terminate medium voltage underground cables; mount and align electrical equipment to technical drawings Communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders; explain failure modes, repair options, and timeline impacts clearly Maintain physical fitness and situational awareness to work safely at height, in confined spaces, and around energized equipment Operate MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) to document work, create reports, and manage correspondence Salary & Benefits Estimated salary: KES 180,000 – 280,000 per month (based on 3+ years experience and technical qualifications in Kenya's energy sector).
