Description
The Dane County Land and Water Resource Department, Water Resource Engineering Division, has a limited term vacancy for a LTE Erosion Control Specialist.
Limited Term Employees (LTE’S) are limited to working 1,200 hours per payroll year and are not guaranteed any amount of specific hours per week.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, this position provides erosion control and stormwater management plan inspection, development, and implementation assistance to municipal officials, developers, and consultants. Provides technical support in planning, design and alternative erosion and storm water control practices. Performs other duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assists with the implementation of the county’s erosion control and stormwater management ordinance. Performs inspection services and recommends enforcement of erosion control and stormwater management plans, both in the unincorporated areas of Dane County and in municipalities with 66.0301 agreements. Develops and maintains guidance documents for Erosion Control and Stormwater Management.
Education, Experience And Special Requirements
Education, Training and Experience:
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture engineering, hydrology, or natural resource management and one (1) year of experience in the professional application of erosion control and stormwater management practices for both urban and agricultural conservation purposes; and in developing and maintaining guidance documents for erosion control and stormwater management.
Special Requirements
Must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. Must obtain a Wisconsin Erosion Control Inspector certification before one (1) year probationary period ends. Also refer to the “Physical and Environmental Work Requirements” section below.
Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job’s responsibilities. Wisconsin’s Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. For Bilingual Positions
• Provide services in both English and the required foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Hmong, etc.).
• Applicants being considered for bilingual positions will be tested during the recruitment process prior to employment. This will primarily consist of passing an oral language proficiency assessment from English to foreign language and foreign language to English, but may require additional language testing, such as written translation, if it is an essential function of the job.
• If applicable, individuals may confirm with the Employee Relations Division whether results of bilingual language certifications/ examinations they currently hold qualify them for the position’s bilingual designation.
Physical And Environmental Work Requirements
Must be able to traverse a wide variety of field conditions (e.g., wet, muddy terrain, steep slopes, livestock operations, construction sites, stream corridors, etc.) and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to see and hear within normal ranges with or without adaptive devices. Ability to stand, sit, stoop, bend and walk. Ability to use finger, wrist and arm motions.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of erosion control and stormwater management designs, planning and implementation. Must demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of prediction and least cost methods and approaches. General computer and GIS software knowledge. Surveying and inspection skills and techniques. Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals, public and private agencies.
