Salary from £42,429 to £50,656pa inclusive with potential to progress to £54,295 pa inclusive.

This is a fixed-term appointment for two years with the potential to extend for a further year subject to funding. Start date September 2025 (or potentially earlier).

This Fellowship opportunity is the result of an exciting and ambitious strategic partnership between LSE and newcleo Ltd. ( to foster outstanding research in energy economics and policy at LSE. You will join one of the world’s largest and best-known environmental and resource economics groups, which bridges, for example, the Department of Geography and Environment, and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment.

The successful candidate will be based within the Department of Geography and Environment, as part of a growing team of researchers working on the economics of energy and environment. The successful candidate will develop their own research agenda within this team and as part of the LSE/ newcleo partnership. They will also have the opportunity to develop and contribute to teaching initiatives on energy economics and policy within the Department. The successful candidate will participate in wider departmental and School activities as required, whilst contributing to fostering an engaging and supportive research environment within LSE, as well as between LSE and Newcleo Ltd.

Candidates should have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD in economics, environmental/resource economics, energy economics or a closely related field by the post start date. Very good knowledge of the economics of energy and the environment as well as energy policy, including the nuclear energy sector is essential, as is expertise and interest in economic modelling of the energy sector and/ or electricity markets. The ability and willingness to engage with non-academic decision makers and communicate analytical content to energy policy makers and professionals is also essential.
