Job Description

The University of Akron seeks a Life Cycle Assessment Administrator to develop and deliver curricula for Life Cycle Assessment programming, both online and in-person. Responsibilities include collaborating with faculty and industry partners, conducting needs assessments, and assisting with assessments as needed. A PhD in a relevant field and extensive experience in Life Cycle Assessment are required. The position is primarily on-campus with potential for some hybrid work.
Job Summary:

Responsible for development of curricula and delivering Life Cycle Assessment programming in on-line and in-person settings. May be required to assist researchers and industry professionals in performing Life Cycle Assessment on an as-needed basis as time permits.

Essential Functions:

Collaborate with faculty and industry partners to develop curriculum and teach Life Cycle Assessment programming
• Works with IHE faculty, industry professionals and other relevant partners to perform a needs assessment of Life Cycle Assessment programming in general and specific areas of need identified by polymer industry partners
• Iteratively develops Life Cycle Assessment curriculum to address identified needs in collaboration with faculty and industry professionals
• Develops in-person and on-line Life Cycle Assessment educational programming
• Deliver educational programming content to students and industry professionals
• Assist Tech Hub researchers and industry professionals in performing Life Cycle Assessment on an as-needed basis as time permits

Education: Requires a PhD in science or engineering field relevant to Life Cycle Assessment.

Licenses/Certifications/Requirements: Life Cycle Assessment Certified Professional (LCACP) preferred.

Additional Position Information:

Experience:

Required
• Extensive theoretical knowledge and understanding of Life Cycle Assessment and interpretation
• Knowledge of methods and policies defined by the International Standards Organization (ISO), as well as the Together for Sustainability Scope 3 guideline
• Strong data analysis skills and ability to determine the most appropriate databases for use in specific Life Cycle Assessments
• Minimum of three years of academic or work experience in Life Cycle Assessment
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying Life Cycle Assessment to the polymers/plastics field
• Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office suite of products.
• Demonstrated strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment across different organizations including academic and industry settings.

Preferred
• Experience in postsecondary teaching and curriculum development.
• Experience in on-line education
• Practical knowledge of the GHG (Green House Gas) protocol or other emission accounting methodologies
• Experience conducting TEA (Techno-Economic Analysis)

Leadership:

Responsible for chairing committees and leading groups of individuals toward common goals.

Physical Requirements:
• Job is physically comfortable; individual is normally seated and has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
• May occasionally lift very lightweight objects.

Working Conditions:
• Fully on-campus position with potential option for some hybrid. Standard working environment with possible minor inconveniences due to occasional noise, crowded working conditions and/or minor heating/cooling or ventilation problems.
• Near continuous use (>70% of the time) of a video display terminal.
