Job Description

Earthjustice is seeking a Legislative Director for Environmental Advocacy in Washington, DC. The role involves developing and implementing legislative strategies on climate and energy issues, leading a team of policy experts, and lobbying Congress. Ideal candidates should have eight years of advocacy experience, strong leadership skills, and excellent communication abilities. Responsibilities include direct lobbying, coalition representation, and team supervision.
We are seeking a highly experienced legislative director to join our team at Earthjustice. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for developing and implementing legislative and administrative strategies to drive positive change on climate and energy issues.
About the Position

This role provides the opportunity to lead a team of policy experts working on climate and energy issues. You will be responsible for developing and implementing legislative and administrative advocacy strategies, as well as overseeing a team of staff members.

The ideal candidate will have eight years of combined federal legislative and administrative advocacy experience, a strong understanding of the federal legislative process, and proven leadership skills. They will also possess excellent writing and oral communication skills, with the ability to work independently and proactively.
• Lobby Strategy Development and Implementation (30-40%): Directly lobby Congress and the Administration, develop and implement legislative and administrative advocacy strategies by supervisees, educate the Administration and Congress on key legal challenges and rulings, serve as spokesperson for Earthjustice on (climate and energy) issues.
• Coalition and Partnerships (10-20%): Represent Earthjustice in coalitions and with partners on assigned issues, create and maintain a leadership position within the D.C. environmental community and when applicable state and local environmental and justice communities on assigned issue areas.
• Supervision (40%): Cultivate and lead a cohesive and supportive policy team around (climate and energy), occasionally substitute for V.P. of PAL when the V.P. is unavailable, provide advocacy coaching, mentoring and regular feedback to direct reports.
