The University of Queensland is seeking a full-time Lecturer (Teaching & Research) in Civil and Environmental Engineering at its St Lucia Campus in Brisbane. This permanent position focuses on teaching, research, and student supervision, particularly in environmental engineering. School of Civil Engineering – Faculty of EAIT Full-time (100%), permanent position Base salary will be in the range $112,572.59 - $133,381.10 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level B) Based at our St Lucia Campus - Brisbane About This Opportunity This permanent appointment is an exciting opportunity for an early career academic in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a strong background in Environmental Engineering who can contribute towards our overall teaching and research excellence in both general civil engineering and environmental engineering. Key responsibilities will include: Teaching: This position involves contributing to the development of civil and environmental engineering programs and course materials, ensuring they are engaging and up-to-date. It includes teaching across various settings, supporting innovative curriculum design, and coordinating courses, lectures, tutorials, and assessments for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, with a focus on environmental engineering. The position also requires maintaining course quality through evaluations, offering academic counselling and adhering to university teaching standards and regulations. Research: Requires developing an independent or team-based research program to gain national recognition and impact, collaborating with colleagues and postgraduates on joint research projects, and seeking competitive research funding. It also includes taking a lead role in funding applications, managing research funding and maintaining an active publishing record in high-quality journals and conferences. Additionally, the position requires reviewing best research practices, preparing publications and progress reports, and participating in regular meetings to discuss project objectives and outcomes. Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits. Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values. About You Applicants should possess a PhD in the area of Civil and Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering. An undergraduate degree in civil and environmental engineering or civil engineering is also highly desirable. Research interests in civil and environmental engineering may include, environmental hydrology and hydrogeology, environmental modelling, environmental impact assessment, land contamination and rehabilitation, pollution modelling and management, remote sensing for environmental assessment, solid waste management, design and assessment of sustainable and resilient infrastructure, water resources engineering and other areas of environmental engineering or science. Additionally, you will demonstrate: Expert knowledge in a relevant discipline and ability to develop innovative research programs in the field of civil and environmental engineering. A growing profile in teaching and research in the discipline area. A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences. Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding. Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, Honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups. Experience in course coordination and contribution to the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area. A growing record of supervision of Honours and HDR students to successful completion. Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.
