The Environmental Agency is seeking a Lead Team Member in Havant, UK, to lead a patch team, ensuring operational efficiency, incident response, and maintenance program delivery. Responsibilities include asset management, problem-solving, coaching team members, and planning site operations. We have a vacancy for a Lead Team Member (LTM). In this role, you will provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of a patch team, ensuring operational efficiency across your patch. You’ll be responsible for responding to incidents, delivering the maintenance program, and operating structures.

As a Lead Team Member, you will ensure that work is completed effectively and efficiently, delivering value for money, and maintaining Health and Safety standards. The work you do will have a direct impact on the environment and the local community.

This role offers a mix of challenging and rewarding work, with plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and experience. You will be accountable for:
• Asset and Site Management – Ensuring all assets operate as required, reporting any defects, and supporting day-to-day site activities.
• Problem Solving and Escalation – Acting as an escalation point for team issues and solving complex challenges.
• Coaching and Mentoring – Providing guidance and support to team members, helping them improve their skills and confidence.
• Planning and Coordination – Assisting in planning maintenance schedules and ensuring timely coordination of materials and plant delivery.
• Operational Leadership – Leading and managing site operations, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Customer and Team Relations – Managing on-site inquiries and ensuring clear communication with stakeholders.
• Equipment and Compliance Checks – Ensuring all tools and equipment are maintained, safe, and compliant with regulations.

The team

The Field Team perform an essential ‘front line’ role for the Environment Agency.

The team provides operational response during flood events such as operating sluices, erecting temporary defences, inspecting and maintaining Agency defences.

The field team carry out most maintenance and construction activities on Environment Agency assets, grass cutting, removal of obstructions and civil engineering works.

We also work for other departments within the Environment Agency; for example, responding to pollution incidents, and Fisheries improvements.

Experience/skills required

We are seeking an enthusiastic, practical individual who enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions. You should have experience leading a field-based team and be capable of using plant and tools effectively. Construction and ground maintenance skills are a plus.

A strong understanding of health and safety risk management procedures and relevant legislation is essential.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be comfortable using iPads for reporting, and be able to respond to incidents as part of the standby rota.

Role specific license requirements

Driving licence required
