Job Description

Ecogen Energy is seeking a Lead Solar Installer based in Bristol, UK, responsible for installing solar panels on commercial properties and solar farms. The role includes project planning, leading a delivery team, overseeing installations, ensuring safety compliance, and mentoring trainees. Candidates should have 6+ years of experience in solar or mechanical/electrical installations and possess strong leadership and communication skills. The position requires travel within the UK and to the Channel Islands.

// Lead solar installer - Bristol and Jersey island

Ecogen Energy is looking for a lead solar installers based in Bristol and willing to travel within the UK and to the channel islands. As a lead installer, you will be responsible for installing solar panels on commercial properties and solar farms, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading solar PV or other mechanical or electrical installation teams and demonstrate a commitment to high-quality, timely installations.

// Key responsibilities

You’ll be involved in all stages of an installation project, from inception to completion, including:

Project Planning
• Collaborate with team members to plan and coordinate the installation process

Leading a Delivery Team
• Lead and manage the delivery team, subcontractors and contractors working on-site to ensure high-quality installations and compliance with safety standards
• Communicate effectively with Site Manager, Site Supervisor, team members, customers, and partners
• Actively support and uphold our commitment to a respectful workplace

Project Execution
• Oversee the installation of mounting structures, solar modules, DC cabling, containment systems, and electrical terminations
• Interpret layout drawings, cable schedules, and installation plans to ensure accurate execution
• Maintain high standards and ensure compliance with health & safety regulations at all times
• Conduct quality control checks, flag issues early, and ensure snag-free delivery
• Support daily briefings and risk assessments
• Coordinate with the office team and site manager to manage materials, tools, and plant
• Liaise with supervisors and subcontractors to sequence work effectively
• Mentor trainee installers and support skills development within the team
• Complete and maintain installation checklists

Project Completion
• Collaborate with the electrical lead to perform DC testing and fault finding
• Collaborate with the electrical lead to ensure proper commissioning
• Support with preparation of handover documentation

// Requirements

Experience
• Ideally 6+ years experience in solar installation or a mechanical or electrical installation role
• Experience with a wide variety of mounting kit, panels and roof types
• Experience leading and managing teams

Skills and capabilities
• Valid driver’s licence essential
• Experience leading and managing teams essential
• Excellent time management and organisation skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety

Preferred qualifications
• SMSTS/SSSTS preferred
• Valid telehandler certification/license

Job requirements
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed
• Ability to travel when required

What We Offer:
• Salary: £40-50k full time 40-hour week (depending on experience)
• Overtime
• Profit share scheme (available after a 4-month probationary period)
• 5% employer pension contribution
• 28 days of holidays (including bank holidays)
• Accommodation and overnight allowance when staying away from home

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year

Schedule:
• Holidays
• Monday to Friday
• Overtime
• Weekend availability

Willingness to travel:
• 75% (preferred)
