Newmont Mining Corporation seeks a Lead for Legacy Northern Canada & Sustainability to oversee closure and reclamation activities for legacy mining sites. Newmont North America operations are located in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec with roles in operations, projects, and exploration. Regional Support is provided from our office in Vancouver.

Your Impact
As the Lead, Legacy Region – Northern Canada & Sustainability, you will drive the strategic planning and execution of closure, reclamation, and risk mitigation activities for Newmont’s legacy mining sites. Your leadership will ensure regulatory compliance, foster stakeholder collaboration, and deliver innovative solutions to minimize legal, environmental, and social risks while protecting Newmont’s reputation and long-term business interests.
As Part of Our Team, You Will
• Provide visible safety leadership through regular, open dialogue on safe work practices and expectations
• Promote active engagement in all aspects of the team’s safety culture, including meetings and training
• Develop and manage annual budgets, 5-year forecasts, and long-term liabilities, ensuring delivery against targets
• Ensure regulatory compliance across the region, coordinating contractors and consultants for required monitoring and reporting
• Lead short-term regional planning by identifying immediate needs, risks, and developing appropriate projects
• Facilitate collaboration and engagement with internal and external stakeholders within the region
• Provide unified leadership and direction to multiple sites, working with legal, consultants, contractors, and regulators
• Oversee site activities through team leads and senior technical specialists, ensuring alignment with regional goals
• Coordinate and prioritize objectives and work plans across sites within the region
• Drive continuous innovation to reduce long-term risks and operational costs
• Develop and implement contingency plans for risk mitigation
Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role
• 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in closure, reclamation, or leadership advisory roles focused on environmental or legacy site management (a combination of relevant education and equivalent work experience will be considered)
• Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering (or equivalent)
• Professional designation (P.Eng. or similar) is considered an asset
• Broad knowledge of safety, environmental compliance, closure and reclamation, civil engineering, project controls, accounting, and external relations
• Proven leadership experience managing multi-site operations or complex projects in a regulated environment
• Expertise in negotiation, consensus-building, technical writing, budgeting, and forecasting
• Familiarity with major environmental legal frameworks in the region (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, UMTRCA, MDMER, Fisheries Act, MVRMA)
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead diverse teams and collaborate across functions
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and deliver programmatic projects with minimal oversight
• Experience engaging with First Nations and other community stakeholders is considered an asset
Your Work Environment
• Location: Yellowknife, NT is preferred, other remote or locations central to (Yellowknife NT, Houston BC, or Marathon ON) will be considered as this position is responsible for multiple legacy sites
• Travel: Regular site visits, stakeholder meetings, and collaboration with regulators and external partners
• Setting: Combination of office-based and field-based work in remote location
• Schedule: Monday to Friday
We are now recruiting for the position of Lead, Legacy Region – Northern Canada and Sustainability with a competitive salary of CAD 126,200 -CAD 168,300, with an additional short-term target incentive of 25%, as well as an additional long-term target incentive of 15%. The offered base salary will be based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies, with consideration to internal equity. The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ 126,200-168,300. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
