Our client is seeking an accomplished Lead Architectural Designer specializing in Urban Planning to join their prestigious firm in Chicago, Illinois, US. This role is central to conceptualizing and executing large-scale urban development projects, focusing on sustainable design, community engagement, and innovative architectural solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a visionary approach combined with a deep understanding of urban dynamics and regulatory frameworks.
Responsibilities: Develop and lead the design direction for complex urban planning and architectural projects from concept to completion. Create compelling master plans, site plans, and architectural designs that respond to the unique context and needs of each project. Collaborate closely with city officials, developers, community stakeholders, and other consultants to ensure project alignment and buy-in. Translate urban planning principles into tangible architectural forms and functional spaces. Prepare and present design proposals, visualizations, and reports to clients and review boards. Conduct site analysis, feasibility studies, and regulatory research to inform design decisions. Mentor and guide junior architectural staff, fostering a collaborative and creative design environment. Ensure design quality and adherence to project budgets and timelines. Stay current with emerging trends in urban design, sustainable architecture, and placemaking. Oversee the coordination of design documents with engineering disciplines, landscape architects, and other project team members. Qualifications: Master's degree in Architecture or Urban Planning from an accredited institution. At least 10 years of professional experience in architectural design and urban planning, with a portfolio demonstrating successful large-scale projects. Licensed Architect (RA) or Certified Urban Planner (AICP) is highly preferred. Demonstrated expertise in conceptual design, master planning, and architectural detailing. Proficiency in industry-standard design software, including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, and Adobe Creative Suite. Strong understanding of zoning regulations, building codes, and environmental impact assessments. Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills. Experience in client management and stakeholder engagement. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and lead design teams effectively. A passion for creating innovative, sustainable, and community-focused urban environments.
