Eocene Environmental Group, Inc. is hiring a Landscape Architect in Sacramento, CA. The role involves collaborating with project managers to conduct site analyses and prepare Visual Impact Assessments for utility projects. Compensation Range: $25-$34/hour or higher, commensurate with experience.
JOB SUMMARY: The Landscape Architect will collaborate closely with project managers and environmental planners to conduct site analyses and develop design recommendations for a range of utility and telecommunications construction projects. A key focus of this role is the preparation of Visual Impact Assessments (VIAs), particularly for utility projects located within Caltrans right-of-way in California. Project assignments may also extend to various locations throughout California and across the United States.

• Conduct Visual Impact Assessments (VIAs) by utilizing VIA Questionnaires to determine the need and appropriate level of assessment (Memorandum, Standard, or Advanced), and execute all related tasks
• Perform comprehensive on-site inventories to assess existing conditions and inform project design
• Accurately measure properties and develop detailed, scaled base maps for project planning
• Collaborate with construction teams, as needed, to support the successful implementation of landscape designs
• Conduct post-construction site visits, when necessary, to verify compliance with design intent and specifications
• Travel regularly to project sites across California and other U.S. states to support fieldwork and project development

• Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates to inform budgeting and project planning
• Maintain consistent and punctual attendance for all work hours, meetings, and site visits
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and environmental policies
• Adhere to client-specific guidelines and requirements throughout the design and implementation process
• Uphold industry best practices and company standards in all aspects of project execution and documentation
• Perform additional duties as assigned, supporting project needs and team objectives
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Licensed Landscape Architect in the State of California (additional state licensure is a plus)
• Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited Landscape Architecture program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Demonstrated professional experience in landscape architecture within California, with a strong understanding of regional environmental and regulatory contexts
• In-depth knowledge of California native flora and plant communities
• Experience conducting Visual Impact Assessments (VIAs)
• Working knowledge of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and its application in project planning and design
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD (or comparable design software)
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with clients, team members, and stakeholders
• Highly detail-oriented with strong project management capabilities to support complex, multi-phase projects
• Proven organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities efficiently
• Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in fast-paced environments
• Capable of working under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy
• Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English to effectively perform job responsibilities and communicate with colleagues, clients, and vendors
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES PERFERRED:
• Developed high-quality photo simulations and 3D visualizations to effectively communicate design concepts and support project presentations
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite-particularly Photoshop and Illustrator-for professional-grade graphic design, rendering, and image editing

The physical activities of this position constantly require effective talking, hearing, sitting, walking, and standing functions. The position also often involves sedentary work where sitting is required most of the time, with occasional standing or walking. The position also requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Must be able to perform activities with close visual acuity, such as reading a computer screen and reading print material. The functions of this position are conducted in a temperature-controlled environment.
