Job Description
Job Title: Junior Carbon Offset Specialist
Location: Kigali – Rwanda
Synopsis:
On behalf of our client, we are actively sourcing a Junior Carbon Offset Specialist based in Kigali -Rwanda. The successful candidate will support carbon offset initiatives, focusing on technology-based projects.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise and/or coordinate activities related to Carbon Offset projects (technology based), clean cooking and distribution of enhanced cookstoves.
• Support the identification of Carbon Offset opportunities aligned with Voluntary Certification Schemes (e.g., VERRA, Gold Standard) in line with the company’s strategy.
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including national and international project developers and institutional agencies, to advance Carbon Offset initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
• A degree in engineering,forestry,biology, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, or a related field (master’sor PhD is an advantage). Candidates with different educational backgrounds may be considered if they have significant experience in the role.
• A minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in technology-based carbon projects, including clean cooking and the distribution of improved cookstoves.
• Knowledge of major Voluntary Certification Schemes, regulated schemes (e.g., ETS), and emerging standards (e.g., ART-TREES).
• Familiarity with international carbon offsetting frameworks, including UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, and SDGs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft office.
• Knowledge of national climate policies, including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the REDD+ framework in East African countries.
• Prior experience in Carbon marketis an advantage.
• Proficiency in using Power BI to track and analyzecarbon credit transactions, emissions reductions, project performance, and market trends.
• Strong ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strategic thinking skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills in the evolving carbon offset landscape.
• Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda is required. Proficiency in French will be an added advantage.
