Job Title: Irrigation Specialist

Reports to: Farm Manager

Job Summary:

The Irrigation Specialist is responsible for ensuring that crops receive adequate water through proper irrigation techniques. The Irrigation Specialist monitors weather patterns, soil conditions, and water usage to determine the appropriate irrigation schedule and implements irrigation systems to deliver water efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement irrigation plans that consider weather patterns, soil moisture levels, and crop needs
• Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems, including drip irrigation, center pivot irrigation, and flood irrigation systems
• Monitor and adjust irrigation systems as needed to ensure optimal water usage and crop growth
• Operate irrigation equipment, such as pumps, filters, and controllers, and perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed
• Monitor and analyze soil moisture levels to determine irrigation needs and adjust irrigation schedules accordingly
• Collaborate with other farm staff to coordinate irrigation schedules with planting and harvesting schedules
• Ensure compliance with local and state water usage regulations
• Keep detailed records of irrigation schedules, water usage, and equipment maintenance and repairs

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in irrigation management, agriculture, or a related field preferred
• 2+ years of experience in irrigation management or related field
• Knowledge of irrigation systems and equipment, including pumps, filters, and controllers
• Familiarity with irrigation scheduling and water management practices
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.

Physical Demands:
• The Irrigation Specialist must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, stand and walk for extended periods of time, and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

The Irrigation Specialist will work primarily outdoors in the field, with occasional indoor work required for data analysis and equipment maintenance. The job may require working in confined spaces and with chemicals, which may require the use of protective equipment
