Flatiron Construction is seeking an Irrigation Engineer for the California high-speed rail project in Corcoran, CA. About the position

One of the first in the nation, California high-speed rail will connect the mega-regions of the state, contribute to economic development and a cleaner environment, create jobs, and preserve agricultural and protected lands. Flatiron Construction Corp is looking to add an Irrigation Engineer to our team. This individual will perform tasks related to the collection of cost data required to monitor the project's budget and estimates. This requires the selection and application of resource monitoring and control principles, techniques, and technical knowledge of construction projects. The California high-speed rail system is set to run from San Francisco to the Los Angeles basin in under three hours at speeds capable of over 200 miles per hour by 2029. The Irrigation Engineer will meet with engineering and field crews to review production schedules and confirm that all materials, equipment, and resources are readily available for production to continue on schedule and within budget. This role involves reviewing environmental assessments, survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photography, and other topographical and geologic data. The engineer will analyze soil types, drainage and conservation problems, climate characteristics, water supply and flow, and other environmental conditions to identify engineering problems and assess the project's potential impact. They will design efficient and cost-effective irrigation systems that meet all requirements, prepare site plans, specifications, cost estimates, and environmental impact assessments. Monitoring job site progress and ensuring compliance with design specifications and environmental, safety, and other government regulations is crucial. The engineer will provide technical input for project work plans and scheduling, identifying risk elements of production, materials, equipment, or processes that could negatively impact the budget or schedule. Additionally, the Irrigation Engineer will evaluate daily production, schedule, and budget projections to accurately track project performance, document daily activities, and update project schedules weekly for owner and management reporting. They will attend weekly owner meetings and present on project production status as needed. The role also includes preparing and managing a three-week work plan, notifying engineering and project management of any significant schedule changes, and developing solutions to mitigate delays and costs. The engineer will initiate and manage all Requests for Information (RFIs) as needed by the project and remit accurate project quantities using assigned project cost coding to ensure project financials are accurately reported. They will manage invoicing with the company accounting team regarding materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs, and support the engineering team with quality assurance as needed.

• Review required Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) to ensure a safe and compliance work environment for all construction personnel.

• Participate in all weekly safety meetings with field team and project leadership; present field analysis as needed.
,
• Assist the estimating team with project schedule, budget and cost parameters by providing technical input as needed.
,
• Assist the development of design drawings and provide technical input, as needed.
,
• Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedule and crews as needed.
,
• Reconcile job close-out checklist with owner representative and field crews at the end of the project.
,
• Maintain knowledge of Company values and strategic plan.

Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field required.
,
• 5+ years construction engineering experience required.
,
• 7+ years civil or structural engineering and irrigation experience required; field experience in agriculture irrigation installation preferred.
,
• Experience in resource monitoring techniques (i.e. cost accounting, basic estimating) and construction technology, process systems and/or structures preferred.
,
• Specialized, technical knowledge of design build or other alternative build techniques.
,
• Able to set clear expectations for direct reports regarding role and responsibilities.
,
• Able to delegate and assign work to engineering team to progress the project production forward.
,
• Able to manage multiple engineering tasks and progress them all towards a common goal.
,
• Advanced knowledge of contract specifications and quality assurance practices.
,
• Able to identify budget and project costs and recommend options to mitigate project delays.
,
• Possess verbal, written and presentation skills.
,
• Knowledge of design build and other alternative build techniques.
,
• Knowledge of financial reporting methods, quantity tracking methods and cost coding.
,
• Knowledge of construction scheduling and production time management preferred.

• Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others.
