Job Description

BroadBean is seeking a Summer 2026 Investment Oversight Intern in Iowa to gain hands-on experience in asset management. The intern will support the Investment & Platform Oversight team by analyzing investment data, preparing reports, and monitoring portfolios. Candidates should be enrolled in a finance-related program with strong Excel skills. The position offers mentorship and insight into asset management careers, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring four days onsite.
What You'll Do

Principal® Asset Management is looking for a motivated Summer 2026 Intern to join our Investment & Platform Oversight (IPO) team. This role offers meaningful exposure to investment due diligence, portfolio oversight, and the use of data to drive investment insights across our global platform.
The IPO team oversees internal and external investment managers for mutual funds, collective investment trusts, UCITs, and life insurance separate accounts. This is a unique opportunity for students with a strong interest in finance and proven analytical skills-especially in Excel-to work alongside experienced investment professionals.
What You'll Do:
As an intern, you'll support the IPO team in core oversight responsibilities and special projects while building knowledge of financial markets, investment strategies, and institutional platforms.
Key responsibilities include:
• Assist in collecting, analyzing, and summarizing investment data
• Support performance and risk analysis of internal and external managers
• Contribute to the preparation of quarterly reports, dashboards, and materials for governance teams
• Monitor portfolios daily for compliance with investment guidelines
• Learn and apply tools like FactSet and Morningstar Direct
• Participate in process improvement projects and team initiatives
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and respond to data-related requests
Who You Are
• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's program majoring in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field
• Demonstrated strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including functions, formulas, pivot tables, and data manipulation
• Intermediate to advanced understanding of investment concepts, financial markets and investment management
• Curious, analytical, and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
• Strong communicator, both written and verbal
• Able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

Location: This position will be in our Des Moines Iowa or Chicago Illinois office and will benefit from a hybrid work arrangement, with an average of 4 days a week onsite.

Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$29 - $31 / hour
Time Off Program

Internship Stipend
You will receive a lump sum stipend of $3,000. This amount is intended to support incidental expenses you may incur as part of your internship. The Company will provide a tax gross-up on this stipend as a financial benefit, but is not intended to compensate for all tax liabilities.
