Wright Canada Holdings is hiring an Integrated Vegetation Management Technician in Saskatoon, SK. Title: Integrated Vegetation Management Technician

Reports to: IVM Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY: The Integrated Vegetation Management Technician is responsible for promoting awareness of invasive species and integrated vegetation management practices and collect data regularly.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:
• Inventory and control vegetation (native/invasive) throughout BC and Alberta.
• Select and implement appropriate management and control practices.
• Promote awareness of invasive species and integrated vegetation management practices to the public on a day-to-day basis.
• Collect and interpret vegetation population data and monitor control efficacy.
• Working outdoors. Work localities include highway and resource road rights-of-way, oil and gas and utility infrastructure, facilities and sub-stations.
• Shift work ranging in length.
• Operation of ATV’s and pick-up trucks on a daily basis on various road conditions.
• Brush saw and chainsaw operation.
• Job runs from early May to late September/early October, with the potential of year-round opportunities.
• Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with the Company’s culture of safety and employee ownership.
• Comply with applicable federal, provincial, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• B.C Pesticide Applicator Certification (5 year), or provincial equivalent
• Experience in vegetation management.
• Any educational background in Natural Resources, Forestry or Environmental Science would be considered a strong asset.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Strong proficiency in using a chainsaw.
• Occupational First Aid Level 1 and Transportation Endorsement OR Occupational First Aid Level 3.
• Class 5 Drivers License and Clean Drivers abstract.
• Experience using ATVs, or other offroad vehicles.
• Able to work outside and in a range of weather conditions.
• Physically fit to work and walk in a rough terrain area.
• Can comply with Drug and Alcohol Test (mandatory for safety sensitive position – chainsaw and vehicle operation).
• Communicates effectively with all levels of employees, both technical and non-technical.
• Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment.
• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: The physical responsibilities of this position potentially could consistently require effective bending, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. This position often involves medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned or make general observations of the community; close visual acuity, such as reading a computer screen, reading printed material, inspection of small defects, and using measurement devices. The functions of this position are subject to environmental conditions of both inside and outside activities, and may be routinely exposed to noise, vibration, working hazards such as proximity to moving parts, mechanical equipment, moving vehicles, electrical current, heights, exposure to heat, exposure to chemicals, work in close quarters, narrow aisles or passageways, communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, cleaning chemicals, dust, odors, and a variety of pets.

INTELLECTUAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The occupant of this position must be able to perform the responsibilities of the position well under pressure. The position requires adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. This position requires the ability to deal with and find a resolution to problems and maintain a productive working relationship with employees which may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs and requests of others. It also requires adaptability to fluctuate between priorities daily while being responsive to needs as they arise.
