Internship - Wind Technician

About the position

ALLETE Renewable Resources is offering an internship opportunity for a Wind Technician based in New Salem, North Dakota. This position is designed for students currently enrolled in a technical degree program or a bachelor's degree program, with a focus on wind technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related fields. The internship will provide hands-on experience in the renewable energy sector, specifically in the maintenance and operation of wind turbines. Interns will be expected to report in person to the Bison Wind site in New Salem, which is conveniently located 45 minutes from Bismarck/Mandan. The internship is anticipated to begin in May or June 2025 and will be full-time during the summer, with the possibility of transitioning to part-time during academic terms until graduation. Responsibilities
• Assist in performing regular preventative maintenance and repairs of wind turbines
,
• Assist in the troubleshooting, identification, and implementation of electronic and mechanical failures, problems, and corrective actions
,
• Work within clearly defined standard operating procedures and adhere to quality guidelines
,
• Perform bolt torqueing/tensioning, pound maintenance, UAS/drone operation, equipment operations, general labor, and other related duties

Requirements
• Must currently be enrolled in a two-year technical degree program with an anticipated graduation date between December 2025 and June 2026, or a bachelor's degree program with an anticipated graduation date between December 2025 and June 2027

• Preferred majors include Wind Technician, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Electronics/Fiber Optic, Mechanical Maintenance, Power Plant, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as occasional travel may be required
,
• Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather, climb ladders without assistance, and work at heights greater than 250 feet from the ground surface

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools: Outlook, Excel, and Word
