Job Description
The City of Denton is hiring an Intern II - Sustainability to assist the Sustainability Division with daily operations, public outreach, and research. Responsibilities include educational projects, social media campaigns, data management, and community engagement. Candidates should have relevant coursework or experience. The position requires effective communication skills and attendance on-site. A valid driver's license is necessary, and occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
Responsible for assisting Sustainability Division with daily office operations, public information/education outreach programs, and research. Essential Functions:
• Assists with public information/education projects at schools, civic, church, non-profit or community groups; and special events.
• Communicates effectively to diverse audiences including both children and adults
• Assist with design and posting of social media campaigns for Sustainability and Recycling
• Assists with computer operations, which includes spreadsheet design, data entry, and retrieval
• May prepare letters, emails, and similar administrative responses and support functions upon request
• Assists with special research studies, which includes compiling data, analyzing results, preparing reports or illustrative materials
• Assists with multifamily education, attend community functions (meetings and events), prepare residential sustainability presentations, outreach activities and materials. Researches information suitable for social media outreach
• Assist and coordinate public tours
• Attend special events
• Foster partnerships to assist with resource allocation including business, volunteer groups, etc.
• Maintains educational and outreach materials inventory
• Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
Additional Duties:
• Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
• Completion of two (2) years of college with coursework in some of the following: Environmental, Biological, or Earth Sciences; Education; Public Administration; Marketing; Social or Political Science; Business
OR
• Two years of experience related to teaching, education, research, or collecting/compiling data.
OR
• Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Preferences:
• Bilingual in Spanish and English
• Upperclassman or graduate student
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or GIS applications
• Some knowledge of statistics and experimental design
Conditions of Employment:
• Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
• Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check and social security number verification
• Requires occasional evening or weekend work
