The State of South Dakota is offering a summer internship for a Conservation Officer Intern in Rapid City, SD. Interns will assist Conservation Officers with wildlife conservation activities, public safety, and enforcement tasks. This role is aimed at students seeking practical experience while meeting academic requirements. Applicants must be current students with at least one year of their program completed. Preference may be given to South Dakota residents and students.
About the position

The Conservation Officer Intern position is a summer internship role within the Department of Game, Fish and Parks in South Dakota. The intern will assist Conservation Officers with various activities related to wildlife conservation and public safety, including huntsafe programs, boat safety inspections, and parks enforcement. This role provides an opportunity for students to gain practical experience in conservation efforts while fulfilling academic requirements.

Responsibilities
• Assist Conservation Officers with day-to-day activities related to conservation and public safety.

• Participate in huntsafe programs and boat safety inspections.
,
• Conduct parks enforcement and license compliance checks.
,
• Respond to calls for service from the public.
,
• Engage in Step Outside events and activities.
,
• Maintain a daily log of activities completed during the internship.

• Submit a weekly summary of activities to the immediate supervisor.
,
• Photograph activities and prepare a presentation for Regional staff at the end of the summer.

Requirements
• Must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in the upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester.

• Must have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program by the start of the internship.
