Job Description

The Carbon Trust is seeking an Intern for Cities & Regions in Cardiff, UK, focusing on sustainability and environmental sectors. The role involves supporting the Welsh Government Energy Service programme, conducting research, and assisting in project delivery. A key focus of this internship will be to provide support to the Welsh Government Energy Service programme, working across several disciplines within our Wales office in Cardiff. Applications from Welsh residents would be desirable, but not essential.




Carbon Trust internships are offered on a paid basis, and this internship is scheduled to finish at the end of March 2027.

Main duties and responsibilities:

You will be expected to apply a high degree of independence and initiative in delivering high quality work which includes the following:

Supporting and participating in projects to deliver quality outputsCommunicating findings orally and in writing (e.g. during meetings and in reports)Supporting technical modelling and calculations with energy dataParticipating in site visits and other client engagements alongside senior colleaguesConducting research to support both business development and project deliveryAssisting with proposal writing and business development activitiesContributing to knowledge management across the teamProviding general administrative and project support


Key skills we are looking for:

Degree educated or equivalentHighly numerate, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applicationsExperience in conducting research, with strong attention to detail and appropriate use of AI toolsInterest in decarbonisation innovation and climate change adaptationExperience of, or interest in, one or more of the following areas:energy management, energy efficiency, renewable energy, carbon footprinting, carbon innovation and/or net zero strategiesExcellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely to non‑technical audiencesAbility to work effectively within a team environmentAbility to work independently, taking initiative and ownership of tasks, with strong organisational and time management skillsWelsh language skills (desirable)
