Job Description

Clark Nexsen is seeking an Interior Design Intern for their Asheville, NC office as part of the 2025 Summer Scholars program. The role involves collaborating on design phases, creating design materials, and engaging with various stakeholders. Candidates must be enrolled in a CIDA accredited program and possess skills in design software. The position emphasizes teamwork, sustainability, and a commitment to design excellence.
We seek to hire a creative Interior Design Intern in our Virginia Beach, VA office who shares our commitment to design excellence, sustainability, and innovation as a part of our 2025 Summer Scholars program. You will join a team of interior designers and architects working in a multi-discipline, collaborative, and engaging team-based environment that draws on multiple perspectives in the pursuit of innovative solutions. As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to shape architectural projects in a variety of typologies and scales for clients that include educational and cultural institutions, commercial developers, government entities, and local communities. The ideal candidate for this position will be energetic and passionate about design, committed to quality, engaged in team, office, and firm-wide initiatives, able to work independently and in a team environment, and able to prioritize work.

General Responsibilities in including but not limited to:
• Collaborate with project teams during project design phases including programming, concept development, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation
• Develop design sketches, renderings, models, graphics, presentation materials, analysis, and construction drawings and schedules
• Participate in the construction administration of projects including jobsite visits, review of submittals, and responding to contractor questions
• Communicate and engage with a wide variety of stakeholders including clients, owners, users, team members, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to achieve overall project objectives
• Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and participation in continuouslearning
• Help deliver great projects with a sense of energy, passion and personal responsibility

Education, Technology and Experience
• Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a CIDA accredited program as detailed below:
• Students who have completed at least three years in an accredited 4-year Interior Design program.
• Students who have completed at least one year in an accredited Master of Interior Design program.
• Prior experience in an architectural or interior design practice or related field will be given special consideration
• Exposure to 3D modeling, visualization, and graphics software; Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Lumion, Enscape, Twinmotion, and Adobe Suite are strongly preferred
• Excellent graphic, drawing, and presentation capabilities
• Ability and experience in producing quality construction documents, solid understanding of building detailing, construction principles and practices
• Commitment to sustainable design principles and interest in achieving accreditation in LEED AP, WELL AP, and/or Green Globes

Physical Requirements

Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. Work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Workplace Flexibility

We have selected two as common days in the office to nurture collaboration and innovation and to support learning and growth through engagement with colleagues. We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays, with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients). Our hope is that this schedule will offer the work-life balance that is desired by all, while providing consistent opportunities for face-to-face collaboration and mentorship.
