Job Description

The Department of Defense is hiring a Senior Environmental Planner in Florida to support climate change initiatives and resilience goals for Navy installations. Responsibilities include integrating climate-informed decision-making, facilitating adaptation efforts, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with various agencies. The role requires expertise in environmental planning and the ability to prepare briefs for leadership. Candidates must be US citizens and meet federal employment criteria.
About the position

You will support and assist with the implementation of DoD and DoN climate change priorities, climate adaptation initiatives, and military installation resilience goals to ensure Navy forces, systems and facilities. You will serve as a recognized technical expert/authority and resource in the environmental field and serve as the senior environmental planner for critical and strategic projects. You will assist in integration of climate-informed decision-making, including nature-based solutions, to create climate-ready installations and operational capability under changing conditions. You will facilitate climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts into installation planning and base land management operations and support the development of planning, programming, and budgeting to support installation and energy resilience. You will maintain communication with management, environmental regulatory agencies, contractors, and installations to ensure that Navy requirements are met and compliant with environmental regulations. You will prepare briefs or point papers for leadership, attends and participates in senior level workgroup meetings to ensure CNIC/USFFC/NAVFAC are aligned and consistent with regulation and policy. You will coordinate and collaborate with other agencies, organizations, and DoD and DON commands on climate and resilience policy and program matters, and implementation of actions that support installation and community resilience. You will serve as a recognized technical expert/authority and resource in the environmental field and serve as the senior environmental planner (climate) for critical and strategic projects. You will support and coordinate environmental compliance requirements associated with the completion of NEPA documents (such as complex EAs and EISs), including cultural resources laws, Executive Orders, regulations, and DoD and DON policies.

Requirements
• Must be a US Citizen.
,
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
,
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
,
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.

• Current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
,
• Appointment of retired military members within 180 days of retirement is subject to provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

• Must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
,
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.

• Must complete training and maintain a government credit card for travel.

• Must wear personal protective equipment while conducting site visits.

• May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS.
