The University of Tennessee is seeking an entry-level Industrial Worker Safety Technician in Knoxville, TN. The role involves evaluating work environments, conducting inspections, and assisting in safety procedures related to environmental health and safety. Responsibilities include air monitoring, safety training, and equipment calibration. Candidates should have vocational training and the ability to perform physical tasks. This is a full-time position with a focus on safety and support within various university departments.
Job Description

This is an entry-level position for a safety technician in Environmental Health & Safety.

Under the direction of the IWS Supervisor review, evaluate, and conduct analysis of work environments and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. Conducts routine inspections utilizing checklists whose criteria adhere to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals. The position may provide industrial/worker safety support to the UT Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), UT Space Institute (UTSI), and Graduate School of Medicine (GSM/UTMCK) per memorandums of service support agreements

Responsibilities
• Assist IWS Supervisor or IWS Safety Specialist with air monitoring, noise monitoring and record keeping
• Set up of Respiratory fit test equipment and assist in testing.
• Assist in work site evaluation regarding LOTO, Confined Space, and other hazards
• Assist in Forklift training
• Assist in calibration of monitoring equipment
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• Vocational training, technical training or verifiable on-the-job training
• Must be able to walk, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs and lift/carry containers weighing up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate's degree

The successful candidates must pass a drug test and background check
