Mawea is seeking an Environmental Technician III in Chelmsford, MA, to support environmental remediation projects. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining treatment facilities, conducting field monitoring and sampling, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Environmental Technician III (Treatment System Operator)
AECOM is actively seeking an energetic, dedicated person to fill the role of Environmental Technician III for employment in the Chelmsford, MA office. This position would be reporting under AECOM’s Environmental team in Chelmsford, which carries out environmental site assessment and remediation work both inside and outside the region.

The successful candidate will support various projects conducting remedial oversight, routine field monitoring, and soil sampling activities. Conducting field work is an integral component of this position and it is important that the applicant must be willing to travel, including extended travel, when necessary.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of environmental remediation (groundwater, stormwater, soil vapor treatment) facilities and their associated piping and pump stations.
Operate, maintain, control, and perform routine repairs on all facility equipment, including preventive maintenance tasks.
Perform and document regulatory system inspections on a quarterly or other required basis.
Perform regular water and/or air quality sampling, testing, and analysis to ensure compliance with federal, state, and client-specific standards.
Utilize electronic tablets and associated software systems for data collection and to maintain accurate records.
Perform general maintenance and housekeeping duties to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
Provide oversight of AECOM subcontractors performing work at remediation sites.
Assist in the monitoring and collection of groundwater, stormwater, soil, and air samples at remediation sites.
Complete AECOM required safety and other training and implement site-specific health and safety plans.
Communicate with Project Manager(s), Engineer(s), & Scientist(s), Subcontractors, Vendors, and client representatives.
Climb ladders and lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
General working hours will be Monday through Friday, but the candidate will be required to respond to occasional emergencies including on weekends and holidays as assigned.
Daily travel will be required, generally to sites in Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island, but could be throughout the northeast. Overnight travel may be required a few times per year.
Must have good written and verbal communication, customer service, problem solving, and organizational skills.
Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
HS + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Valid Massachusetts Industrial Wastewater Treatment Grade 2 (or higher) License (or ability to obtain license within one year).
Valid US Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must pass the AECOM Motor Vehicle screening.
Due to the nature of this work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to pass a drug screen.
As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to pass a medical screen.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
BS in Geology, Environmental Science, or other related sciences.
5+ years of experience with mechanical equipment operation and maintenance.
5+ years of experience in soil and groundwater sampling techniques; and applicable laboratory analytical methods.
Current 40-hr HazWOPER Certification and associated refresher.
Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
Strong understanding of project documentation requirements including taking organized and detailed field notes, recording observations.
