Job Description

The Student Conservation Association is hiring an intern for Facilities and Landscape at Clearwater Lake in Piedmont, MO from May 18 to August 7, 2026. Responsibilities include maintenance tasks, assisting with park facilities, and interacting with visitors. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver's license, and be able to operate tools safely. Compensation includes a housing allowance and commuting allowance, but housing is not provided.
Position Summary


Intern will perform a variety of essential maintenance and upkeep tasks to enhance public park areas and ensure high-quality visitor experience at Clearwater Lake.

Key Duties and Responsibilities


Daily tasks will involve interacting with visitors and staff to provide a variety of maintenance tasks and assisting journeyman staff in trades.


Duties include:


• Providing ground maintenance to include weeding, raking, and cleaning public areas.


• Assist staff with repairing and upkeep of park facilities such as trails, fences, and picnic tables.


• Assist staff with repairing and maintenance of various infrastructure needs and components.


• Assist in painting new lumber and other material that has been installed because of repair work.


• Responsible for maintenance of equipment, for safe operation of power equipment and hand tools, and adhering to all safety procedures.


• Responsible for cleaning and organizing work areas and tools.



Marginal Duties


• May assist with natural resource programs and assisting with water safety programs.


• Provide educational information to the visitors.



Required Qualifications



Must be at least 18 years old on start date.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
Must complete defensive driving training provided by the government.
Must have the ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English
Must have the ability to work indoors/outdoors and lift up to 40 pounds.
Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, and climb ladders.
Must wear SCA provided attire while on duty.
Must be able to safely operate hand and power tools.

Preferred Qualifications


• Comfortable with receiving/following instructions from journeyman employees


• Comfortable engaging with visiting public.


• Flexible schedule to work weekends and holidays.



Hours


40 per week



Living Accommodations


Housing is not provided.



Compensation


$850/mo Housing Allowance and $80/wk Commuting Allowance; $600 monthly Housing Allowance; $650 to/from travel reimbursement* (if non-local)


All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.



*SCA positions with the US Army Corps of Engineers will receive a To/From Site travel reimbursement that reflects the actual roundtrip travel costs from their ‘home’ to the site. The reimbursement amount is based upon total distance (mileage) travelled and current federal per diem rates. Members are required to submit an expense report to SCA with documented round-trip travel costs for reimbursement. The requested reimbursement amount is capped at $650.
