Job Description

The Student Conservation Association is hiring an Environmental Education Assistant in Buffalo, WY, to promote and facilitate environmental education programs. Environmental Education Assistant

Position Summary

The individual placement will assist in promoting and facilitating programs that showcase the unique natural resources and environmental management practices of the Genesee County Department of Parks, Recreation & Forestry. The member will assist in educating the public about the natural resources of the Genesee County Region in order to reconnect them to the environment so that they may become better stewards of it.

Schedule

June 3, 2025 - August 23, 2025

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Assisting with the planning, developing, organizing, scheduling, preparing, and leading of educational and outdoor recreation programs for students, scouts, seniors, and members of the general public.

Introducing new information and expanding the knowledge of audience members of all ages using a wide variety of interpretive methods to establish and deepen the relationship of natural resources awareness to personal appreciation and meaning in peoples' lives.

Assisting in coordinating special events, creating displays, and writing articles and publications.

Working closely with active park volunteers to coordinate and facilitate their participation and efforts in supporting park programs, special events, visitor services, and park facility development.

Assisting with volunteer outings and excursions including kayaking and hiking trips.

Driver's license
Personal vehicle required (intern must have reliable transportation to/from work each day).

Hours

40 per week

Living Accommodations

Housing is not provided for this position. Note: since housing is not provided nor compensated for in this position, member must currently live (or have secured housing) within a daily commuting distance of the County's Interpretive Nature Center in East Bethany, NY.

Compensation
• Living Allowance - $400/week
• AmeriCorps Education Award - valued at $1,956, received upon successful completion of 450 hours of service

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
